I am looking for ideas to make the game as fun as possible. I've been thinking back to when I played, and it was never more fun than when overcoming great odds and winning.

I am a ship guy. My ship = my castle, kind of thing, lol. The one thing I cannot stand is my ship breaking down. So besides the ship breaking down. What other "problems"
can happen to force the characters to think outside the box a little to come up with a solution. And in turn make the game fun.

I've thought about their ship becoming wrongly impounded. Beyond that right now I am coming up blank. Thank you for your insight and help. Smile

I am assuming you are trying to strand the PCs or prevent them from getting to the next destination they have in mind. Here's a few ideas:

1) Missed astrogation roll causes the ship to end up in the wrong system due to a bad jump. PCs must figure out where they are before they can come up with new jump coordinates.
2) Run into an unexpected object (asteroid; debris from a destroyed ship, planet, mooon; derelict vessel; Interdictor Cruiser) while in hyperspace causing them to end up other than where expected.
3) Ship and/or crew requires additional paperwork (arms load out permits, antipollution/engine emission certification, shipping and operating licenses, Union or Guild membership, etc.) to operate in the local system/region.
4) Ship lands and then for reasons unrelated to the PCs the system is interdicted or blockaded by the Empire or other largel government. Players either need to escape the blockade or solve whatever the problem is that caused the blockade in the first place.
5) Previous owner files stolen ship accusation and report with local authorities. Depending on how the PCs got their ship the accusation could be real or bogus.
6) Bureaucratic data input error misidentifies crew or ship with wanted felons or just with an enormous number of post due landing field fees or speeder parking tickets.
7) Holonet paparazzi mistake a PC for a celebrity who is coincidently in the area. The paparazzi then follow that PC and his ship everywhere they go.

And yes I am indeed thinking of preventing them from them reaching their next destination. =)

I don't know if your crew has their own technician. However, there could be a corrupt starport worker who sabotages their hyperdrive and places a tracking device on their vessel for a group of local pirates to hijack their ship.

A large group of well equipped pirates waiting for a large convoy and mistaking your players for advanced scouts can create difficulties.

One i have used..
A mass fight erupts in the space port where their ship is docked, and cause the local authorities are butt heads, ALL ships there are impounded for a while, till they can work through who's who, and who was to blame. Pity the pc's don't know anyone who can shuffle them to the top of the meeting pile!

IIRC there was a rodian in the Elrod Sector who specialized in this. His ship was called Oota Goota as far as I can remember

Chordak was known to work in the Minos Sector (GG6)

That's the one. I always thought Oo-ta Goo-ta was the perfect name for a ship with a Space of 10 owned by a Rodian.

Of some reason, the players stumble upon something (message drone, strange asteroid, fossil) in deep space. It ends up on board and seems just strange... When they stop by a space station to make repairs (see to it that the ship really needs repairing, so that they are stranded on the space station), something in their finding comes alive and starts spreading in the base. It could be a virus - like the hive virus that infested the katana fleet and drove it's victims insane. It could be a crossover - Alien (from the movie "Alien") or Zerg from Star Craft...

All excellent suggestions. If I were going the virus route, I'd make it something more along the lines of the zombie virus from Death Troopers, so that the crew has something to fight.

Why a virus. Why not a new alien life form that seeds itself in other technology (think the film virus, with jamie lee curtiss).

Or if it's a message drone, it could be a hostile AI like Tycho or Durandal from Bungie's old Marathon games. Those can be a pain in the neck.
