Under their list of special abilities: Invisibility: Defel receive a +3D bonus when using the sneak skill. According to the Thrawn Trilogy Sourcebook, they can absorb most wavelengths of light which makes them appear to be shadows. So in the dark they'd be invisible. _________________ FLUFFY for President!!!!

They aren't actually invisible per say. They look like a shadow with red eyes.
Under ultaviolet light you can then see they have fur ranging in color from brilliant yellow to crystaline azure. They have vicious yellow claws, lime green snouts, and orange gill like slits at the base of their jaw line.
They get the bonus to sneak because they appear to be black shadows, in enviroments devoid of shadows there wouldn't be a bonus. But that's if there's no shadow at all.... _________________ Luke, I am your father.
That's impossible!

That's improbable?
And the Empire will be destroyed by..EWOKS!
That's...highly unlikely.

Griff, your friends have yet to trick you that I have seen. You do that well enough yourself sometimes.
But yeah, Endwyn's assesment is right, not literally invisible, just effectively invisible. They get +3d to hide, sneak et cetera.
Story factor, they are overconfident in their stealth skills. They think it can be just as good as invisibilty and will sometime give themselves away when ignoring surveillance equipment and creatures with higher forms of perception, like UV and IR sight.
Defel NPCs of avaerage skill generally have that problem, a proffessional defel PC would most likely not ignore a threat to him due to his experience and training. _________________ My backpack has jets!

Ultraviolet and infared light are just beyond the spectrum of what the human eye can see. Infared is beyond red, and has a lower frequency, giving it a better range. It's emmited by heat.
Ultraviolet is beyond purple light. it has a higher frequency, giving it a shorter range than normal light. UV light can give you sunburns. It's also frequently emmited by radioactive materials, or other nasty things. |

I am glad I stopped to read this, I was planning on using a Defel assasin on my PCs in the future, but completely forgot that the Gand in our group has UV sight. I will have to keep that in mind...especially describing the scintilating fur colors and such, while the other players might see nothing...hehe _________________ "There's a set way to gain new Force Points and it represents a very nice system, where you're rewarded for heroism, not for being a poor conductor to electricity." ~Jachra |

Roll perception... 'cept you. ::Points to Gand Character::
Ok, good range of rolls, you two see a shadow.
Describe your shape and shade of blacks and grays you chose for those two, they got the roll and know your there.
I'll just hand this full description to Mr. Gand, he is the only one who knows your purple. _________________ My backpack has jets!

I was imagining something far more amusing, as my players have gotten quite used to needing perception rolls (currently wanted by many parties and being stalked). So I would call for perception rolls from 2 of them, and simply hand a descriptive note to the Gand. I can easily forsee the Defel remaining hidden in shadow with that +3D stealth bonus, so it would just be hilarious when the Gand turns and start firing into the darkness, while the other players shrug and try to figure out what's going on...
They already think the Gand isn't quite right...between those wierd rituals, and robbing the dead... _________________ "There's a set way to gain new Force Points and it represents a very nice system, where you're rewarded for heroism, not for being a poor conductor to electricity." ~Jachra |
