I'm looking for the closest template to a homeless, penniless wretch who has lost everything but his life and is in deep to the local cartel/syndicate.

I was thinking Intersteller Transient might work but its more of a lonesome drifter than anything.

Normally I wouldn't even worry about a template but this group is requiring them.

The Outlaw would be work. The first edition text fits best, starting out as, "They killed your family - clean wiped 'em out. They torched your house. They destroyed your life..."

What's the setting? What circumstances require him/her. That might help us fill in the blanks.

The Failed Jedi is also an option, if you wanted to take the FS route.

Basically - none - Our roles are as we wish em - and we wont know who's playing what until we start.

I wanted a character who had a number of ways to be brought in - in need of employment - ties to the local crime boss, even if its debt. etc.

Setting will more than likely be directly following RoTJ and start on either Corellia, Coruscant, Tattoine, or Nar Shadda.

Don't know a lot really.

Edit: And I'd like to stay away from the force this time round.

The best template for someone who's lost everything is... whatever template they were before they lost everything. Just modify it to reflect the lack of items/money...

Having lost their possessions would not influence the skills they'd learned before hand.

True but depending on when the loss occured, may have impacted what they were able to learn.

The outlaw or transient are imo the 2 best options.

I like the Interstellar Transient from Heroes and Rogues.

The background says that the character is an Galactic Vagabond who wants to wonder around from planet to planet experiencing all of the Galaxies' wonders, and is always looking for a free ride to get somewhere.
