Gravity derives from mass, not size. Earth's core is theorized to be molten iron, atomic number 26. A core of something denser, like uranium, atomic number 92, would require less volume for the same mass.

I'm not speculating on the feasibility of a planet with a molten core of uranium or lead, just stating that a smaller, denser planet could have the same gravity of earth and therefore an atmosphere.

Not that Star Wars really ever attempted to be hard science fiction.

I love that scene where Rey is eating, sitting next to the trashed Walker that she uses as her home. This is just before she rescues BB-8 from Teebo.

She puts on the Rebel fighter helmet that doesn't fit her. She might be a young woman--19 years old--but, she's also still a kid.

That scene helped endear her to me.

And, Maz Kanata just cracks me up. I was sold on her from her first moment on screen. I laugh out loud when she says, referring to Chewie, "Where's my boyfriend? I like that Wookiee."

I'm glad to see that she returns in the next film.





As I re-watch parts of TFA, not only do I appreciate it more than I did when I first saw it, but I also appreciate the job the production did in casting. Rey. Maz. Snoke. Ren. All good stuff compared to what Lucas gave us with the two versions of Anakin, Jar-Jar, and silly things like Dexter Jettster, the owner of the space-diner in Attack of the Clones. I still cringe when the droid says, "Hey, wanna cup of Jawa Juice?" Oh brother.

Thank God Lucas sold the franchise.

And, thank God that Disney respects the universe and tries hard to give us fans stuff that we want to see.

I was thinking, as I was watching Finn drink from the animal trough on Jakku, that Lucas would have had that big animal fart on Finn in an attempt to be funny.

The new films also have more...I don't know how to describe it, so I'll say, "bite" in the fights, too. Both in the melees and the starship battles. There's more emotion to them. There's more at stake. They feel more gritty. More dangerous.

I watch the large fights in the prequels, before the new shows came out, and I always used to think that there was something missing. They didn't feel like the attack on the Death Star in ANH or the Battle of Hoth in Empire. Then, when the new films came out, the first blaster shot I heard at the beginning of the film reassured me that the old "atmosphere" of the combats was back--and then some.

Whill, to answer your question, yes. TFA did disappoint me for the above reasons and more, but it fortunately did grow on me after I got the bluray and rewatched it a few times.

But, damn, I really hope TLJ doesn't disappoint me in December by being a knock-off of ESB like TFA was of ANH.

I've already been seeing picks of that 160 KM Long and 300KM wide 'first order capital city ship thing.. And am Dumbfounded with the illogic in how such a thing was created..
