Ok I have a question about targeting systems, as seen at the battle of Yavin on the TIE fighters. What do they target? The hottest point of a ship or the center of the ship? Or is it something completally diffrent? Thanks for the answer.

Targeting scanners are basically the "fire control" bonus a ship weapon gives you. They help predict where a ship is going or just keep you locked onto a stationary target to help you fire at the right time. (Basically, it helps do a lot of the math and physics work for you. Obviously not all, and they aren't perfect...but it helps.) Mostly they just target a ship in general, but I'm sure you can have them lock onto a specific part. In RPG terms, it wouldn't matter if you locked onto the TIE or the TIE's engines for the fire control bonus. You'd basically be taking a called with the standard roll (with the called shot penalty) and (if you hit) then roll damage vs the tie with an appropriate called shot bonus. Compare the results.

(I don't think there are "called shot" rules for ships, but we always just said you get an extra 1D of damage, if damage would cause a roll on the "system damage chart", it's automatically the one you targeted.)

True, plus from the novels we know that the lasers on head hunters/xwings (and most likely other fighters) cna be 'centered' at a specific range, so perhaps the TC is also showing that, and when a ship is in the center of those recticles it means an optimum shot.
