I wouldn't do that. I think it is important that the PC's always believe that unless they plan properly, they might fail. Only so much force and hip-shooting will allow in some situations. The rest of the time, people need to plan their future actions. If they are never pushed, they'll never fall, but they'll never pick themselves up again either. Be firm but not harsh. Good parental, er... GM advice.

Well said. In a discussion i had with one of the council members for our gaming group at gencon (sparks!), i alluded the discontent people had with me, to kids. Say they live with one parent, and get visits to the other one. One parent is strict and does not let them get away with much, the other spoils them rotten and lets them get away with darn near everything. From most of what i have seen, a kid in that situation will hate/despise the former parent, while like the latter. Same with Gms...
They have gotten used to gms who let them get away with all sorts of things, and never pushes them with challenges that actually make them work for victory. Then they come to me, and hate me, cause i do push them. I make them work for it...

It is not that we are saying put them in a situation where success is guaranteed.
We are saying do not put them in a situation where failure is guaranteed.

Absolutely, Boomer.

PC's should never be guaranteed failure, a way out should always exist (I didn't say must). I find that many PC's only remember certain things about their characters, like how many D they have in blaster, and forget about the chances they have to talk their way or think they're way out of a nasty situation. Keep to your guns, make them work for it.
