Flat out: NO.

The popular fan-accepted name is Whills.

Character: Yoda
Template: Jedi BadA$$
Species: Whatchamacallit

Game Notes: Whatchamacallits are a rare breed among the galaxy's many denizens. They do not often venture forth from their home planet of Whatsit, but when they do, look out! Although they will categorically deny it, Whatchamacallits are genetically predisposed toward galaxy-shaping events, and always find themselves at the center of politics, galaxy-wide intrigue, and cola wars.

Ask a Whatchamacallit about their age, and you will always get a ballpark figure, never a general answer.

Whatchamacallits, while quite short in stature, are very acrobatic, a tendency aided by their skin composition, which appears to be a wrinkly rubber-like substance. This most noticeable when they are bouncing off walls, statues, and fallen debris- usually during lightsaber duels with Sith Lords...

He's a rare genetic mutation of the Taco Bell Chihuahua, a sloth, and a geriatric midget with a glandular condition and a penchant for rock cocaine.

Here is an interesting piece of SW trivia from the wiki site that shocked me:
Quote:
A book version of the movie was credited to have been written by George Lucas himself, but in reality was ghost-written by Alan Dean Foster based on an early movie script.
I always assumed the novel was Lucas's words. I'm not sure if the "Journal of the Whills" title was actually created by Lucas or Foster.

According to a pretty reliable source
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Yoda

Yoda is an unknown tridactlyl species
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Unknown_tridactyl_species#Number_of_toes

Many fans have speculated this unknown species are the Whills (as in the Journal of the Whills), but in an interview, George Lucas has denied this. Additionally, in lines cut from Revenge of the Sith, Yoda speaks of the Whills as though they were a separate species. When asked what species Yoda is, Lucas has only joked, "He's a frog."

I always figured Yoda was just a really, really old human and that his short green three toed form was just the natural progression of human development past the six hundred years or so.

I figure he uses to Force to stay alive so long.

Although my friend had the best explanation. He said, "Yoda isn't of any species, he just is..."

I know in one of the EU alien guides his species is listed in the back. It is referred to as "Yoda's Species." It mentions that only three have ever popped up and all three of them were Jedi. It said something along the line of: "While it cannot be confirmed that all of the species is force sensitive, it should be noted that of the three who have appeared, all of them where strongly attuned to the force."

I'll cite it later when I can get my hands on the exact book that it came out of.
