I want to make some cities and star ports... Most I see are for d&d type games. Just trying to prepare better.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

It depends on what you want to do, coupled with how much you want to spend.

I think some of my GMs just use Paint, and it works for them.

If you want to get all high-tech, you could use Adobe Illustrator. It's a great drawing program, but expensive, so you'll want to have other uses for it.

Same goes for Painter. You'll shell out BIG bucks for it (because to really use it to its potential, you need to get a Wacom tablet too, but then you can do FREE-HAND art right on the computer, in a slew of media. If it's something you'll really use, and would be worth the investment, then I'd personally go with that or Illustrator.

If you have a Wacom, you could possible use GIMP, which is a raster tool (like Paint or Photoshop) rather than a vector tool (like Illustrator).

The GIMP works well without a Wacom, too. I've used it for years in lieu of Photoshop, since it's Free Software.
