I must be some kind of moron.
But I can’t find the rules for the pip allotment for starting characters that don’t wish to conform to a template. Embarassed

a human character and most races get 18D of attributes, all these must be within the racial requirements. And then if you're making your own template, they go over skills that are on it with the game master. and spend starting skill dice on the skills Smile

Second edition revised and expanded.
But like I said, I’m still a bit rusty on the mechanics.

Well my group is not fond of the existing templates, we can never leave we-enough alone. Which is why I needed the info.

So can you allocate your 7D to just the skills on the template or any ol' skill?

only skills on the template
I let my players get skills that aren't (if they have sufficient background info) by using CP to learn the new skills, but they can only raise it by +1

I hardly ever strictly go by the templates anymore. Some are too limiting, others too broad. I simply tweak the existing templates to fit my purpose. I think I've only allowed one custom template.

In my group we usually say…
“Here are your pips…now go make your character.”
Their “title” is usually based on what their job is, for example, if they are a pilot in the rebellion, then they are a pilot. Whether or not they have the exact skill that the templates suggest is irrelevant to us. The player make what they want and whatever they call them that’s what they are.

I think that's pretty much what my group does. I can't say for sure though, because my group is in Florida most of the year, and I'm in New York. Embarassed

My group doesn't have access to many templates at all so we usually use a template as a base and chop and change from there whatever the template ends up being closest too is the title.

The esoomian however didn't fit any template we had so I made a custom template (which if I ever get round to it I'll post) his title is antenna-breaker Very Happy
