When you have a ship combat happen where a damage result shows "one weapon destroyed".. How do YOU decide which it is? Randomly allocate it? Have the PC's pick? Choose based on direction of shot?

I'd lean towards "Shooter picks". So, if the PCs are getting shot, they lose the weapon that the shooter chooses. If they're doing the shooting, they choose the weapon lost. GM has veto power, obviously.

This may just be the old D&D player in me, but I would roll dice for it. Say there are 4 options:

1. quad laser
2. laser cannon
3. ion cannon
4. concussion missile-launcher

Roll 1D (obviously it shouldn't be a Wild Die) and then just re-roll it if a 5 or a 6 comes up. Or if you have a four-sided die handy, even cooler.

I'd suggest rolling a 1D to randomize a choice, with the Weapon # being the weapon's position on the ship's stat block:
    1-3 = Weapon 1
    4-6 = Weapon 2

    1-2 = Weapon 1
    3-4 = Weapon 2
    5-6 = Weapon 3

    1 = Weapon 1
    2 = Weapon 2
    3 = Weapon 3
    4 = Weapon 4
    5-6 = Re-Roll

    1 = Weapon 1
    2 = Weapon 2
    3 = Weapon 3
    4 = Weapon 4
    5 = Weapon 5
    6 = Re-Roll

Well.the obvious is that if they are aiming for a specific weapon then that is the one hit. else I would look at direction of shot.

And more generally applicable.

A thought on this...

If a ship has multiple weapons, such as the X-Wing's 4 fire-linked laser cannon and 2 fire-linked proton torpedoes, would you count the entire system as a single weapon, or count the individual cannon as separate?

I could see that being the differentiation between Light and Heavy Damage, with a Light Damage (Weapon Destroyed) result affecting only a single cannon or launcher of a fire-linked group, while a Heavy Damage (Weapon Destroyed) would take out the entire linked group.

That is a good point.

Two launchers.. Each launcher is 1 weapon.
Two launchers, FIRE LINKED, the pair is one weapon.
Two laser cannons, each is one weapon.
Two laser cannons FIRE LINKED, the pair is one..

That's how i see it working

I think, in the spirit of WEG D6 SW, that each individual cannon whether fire-linked or not is an individual weapon. Light or heavy damage doesn't matter if you get a "Weapon destroyed" result.

I don't buy that a single shot from a TIE Fighter which clearly hits one out of four of an X-Wing's laser cannons would take out the other three too. Unless you're contending that fire-linking somehow makes all the other components of a fire-linked system vulnerable to damage done to one part of it. If that's how folks are thinking, I should probably not comment again on this discussion... Embarassed
