So, I know that, by the rules, there's four fire arcs for shields... front, back, left, right.

What happens if you get shot from above (q.v. Millenium Falcon shooting Vader's escort, but against things with shields)? Or below?

This is actually a pertinent question for me because I'm trying to research the capital deflector shields protecting the modular Imperial Garrison, which use the standard four fire arcs...but orbital bombardments are inevitably going to come from above.

I guess just pick a random arc? Or assign the 4 arcs to equal divisions of 24 and roll 4D6 and pick which arc gets hit that way?

First off you should not think of the shields as being a square around the ship. Instead, think of the box with a pyramid shape attached to the top and bottom. When it falls into one of the four faces it is considered hitting that facing.

The easiest way to figure out using this method is find the angle of the attack, decide which side it it hits and use that as the shield rating.

Or, in the case of planetary garrisons and since the shields protecting them are dome-shaped, just imagine a pie cut into 4 equal segments (north, east, west and south) and divide the arcs that way.

I've always envisioned the arcs for a ship as more of a Concave hemisphere.. So the foward shield is like a ( but more curved.. The rear one is ), and the 'top' or bottom is where they meet.

I'm with Garhkal on this one...
