-Revamped Royal Guards-
I decided to make the royal guards more in line with the comics and the books, by adding, removing and changing skills and attributes.
I will include both Sovereign Protectors and the Shadow Guards.
A short "legend" is provided to show what if anything is changed and to what from what.

We Know that the guard coprs had access to and used TIE Interceptors, these being in the "traditional" red/black colors
The TIE even given the guard interceptor semi classification.

We know from Crimson Empire that the guards from training use with great skill the double vibrostave(sword)
There are also canon references that indicate members of the guards piloting the Emperor's shuttle, at least on certain missions.
The force pike is the traditional weapon of the guard, not having the skill spec and being a guard makes no real sense, it is like being a seal but
never having learned how to dive.
I added echani martial arts, as this too is a descriptor on how dangrous these guys really are.

I am considering adding a scholar skill, maybe even 2. Scholar: Galactic Politics. This one for the guards up to about 10BBY
Later years the skill becomming Scholar: Galactic Empire Politics. This one making some sense as the guards would know the whos and what they do
especially the "politicians" moffs and senior officers close to or fairly close to the emperor.
I would even argue them being somewhat familiar with the propper imperial etiquette and such.
I have not included these scholar skills as I am stil unsure which to use

- Sovereign Protectors are exclusively selected from the top 5% of the guard corp's


As to the Shadow Guards they recruit excluively from guards that came from the elite stormcommandos.
Despite their rank being below that of the Sovereign Protector, the Shadow Guards, being the special forces of the guard corps recieve quite
extensive force traning and the use of lightsaber pikes.
This is mainly due to the shadow guards being the main body of assassins and hunters of enemy force users.
The shadow guards for this reason sometimes work closely with inperial iquisitors, as well as being deployed in teams or alone to dispose of
the most dangrous threats to the empire and the emperor, in large part the threats involving the force.
In addition to the force traning scholary traning in the force, and lightsaber and lightsaber pike skill, the shadow guards are "identical" to any
other royal guard, and usually serve along side them wearing the standard red robes, using their night black armor only when deployed to missions.
Shadow Guards can become Sovereign Protectors, though none have so far ( I think)

Nice write ups, but i would think the shadow guards would have higher than 1d/1d/2d for force attributes.. I'd say they should be around 3/3/4d..

The shadow guards for now (still work in progress) are 3,3,4d, while and I'll give my reason for it, the Sovereign Protector is 1,1,2d.

Both entry level rtings.

The commando like shadow guards, are trained primarily to combat "jedi" and other force users and others.
For this they start out their careers in the shadow guard with the 3,3,4d level, indicating they are at par with a fairly well trained force user of the era.

The sovereign protectors are better trained in combat alone, but less so in the force, this due to the protectors are not drawn from the already force sensitive, but undergo an awakening ritula, bestowing them 1, 1, 1d to the force skills, and they then begin the slow process of learning the force from there.
being the ones closes to the "seat f power" they are also kept back, and their level of learning will never be high enough to be even a theoretical dissident, let alone a threat.

I am still working on the shadow guards so things may change with them

SHADOW GUARDS
The shadow guards are almost excusively recruited from the ranks of the elite storm commados.
Unlike the Sovereign Protectors the Shadow Guards, dispite their name is not especially trained in the dark side and is thus not considered
Dark Side force users, another deliberate part of their traning making them less detectable by renegade jedi and other force users.
Also unlike the sovereign protectors, every shadow guard is born force sensitive and have been selected for this very purpose among the top
5% of the commandos.
Some members of the special forces, and even some navy commados may have been recruited into the ranks.
The individual shadowguard could display a much vider array of proficient skills than the general guardsman, even skills not though guards in general
these individua skills depend largely on the shadow guard's prior traning in the commandos(special forces)
The Black Armor of the shado guard is based on the storm commando armor and share most of the same charateristics.
like the Sovereign Protectors the Shadow Guards have recieved extensive traning to provide them almost super human reflexes
(DEX increase from the base guard 4D to 5D like the Sovereign Protectors)

Update to Sovereign Protector.


All sovereign Protectors undergo a ritual of awakening, where they are bestowed upon the force sensitive ability as well as 1D to all force skills.
This is part of their indoctrination into the dark side and the secret order of the emperor.
Only through intensive studies of the dark side (not sith!) do the protector grow in the force, though many of them are given further training from the inquisitorius.

Perhaps instead of the scholar skills, try bureaucracy or a specialization thereof. Your description seems more inclined toward that skill than toward scholar.

I like the Shadow Guard. I have a recurring Storm Commando NPC in the game I run, maybe I will have them advance to these stats as the players keep increasing their Force Skills. I like having Force using villains that don't use lightsabers.

I haven't read any backstory on the Royal Guard Tie Pilots introduced in that FFG X-Wing game, but I love the idea and the ship design. (that red TIE Interceptor...drool...)

So the standard Royal Guard is groomed from the Stormtrooper Legions and the Shadow Trooper are the best of the Storm Commandoes. Would we write up stats for Royal Guard Pilots from the elite of the already elite TIE Pilots?(base stats for TIE Pilots are already killer!)
The Empire has so much specialization that it stands to reason that you wouldn't invest tons of pilot training into an elite ground trooper from the Army or Stormtrooper Legions.

Great, thanks! I followed my gut; didn't count out the points but I really wanted SOMEONE to have a 5D Mechanical for once.

I am a big fan of the Dark Empire Source Book and I have looked over the Sovereign Protector stats repeatably. I always scratched my head at some of the choices. 8D in Archaic Guns? I mean, I know the Dark Side Adepts dig through old temples and such but why not 8D in Melee Parry?
So I had to include Archaic Starship Piloting! Who knows what weird ships those creeps on Byss are going to make the troops fly.

The Archaic gun thing, has to with the SP's ceremonial role, they then wear a very different looking armor and holds a lance like "ancient" rifle.
It is simply found here and there throughout the wast EU.

But yeah.

So that's it! The EU keeps giving.
Hmm, I can picture a gritty S.P. pulling out a wheel lock rifle and saying something like, "One Rebel...one bullet.," then wading into battle against a hoard of T-47s.

Way back when, i envisioned 3 tiers to the royal guardsmen.
Regular royal guards
Crimson guards (focused on the double bladed vibro staff vice force pikes, but also more skilled in hand to hand as well as melee)
and then Crimson shadows (force using ones).

That kind of matches up with what you have..
