So I was at a local con, waiting to play some games. A game got canceled, so I opted to run d6 SW. All players but one had played SW before. 4 players. One encounter done twice, first using minisix and then RAW ST.

Encounter
Rescue rebel key figure from 5 storm troopers in a mini base. 4 standard troopers, 1 a boss style.

4 player templates, no Jedi.
Map used, with minis

Took about 30 minutes.

Then did RAW, and asked the players to start in the same spot and TRY to generally do what they did before.

Took about 45 minutes

I enjoyed the minisix system, but my concerns is if force powers worked similar and how the force was handled.

Anyone have thoughts or experiences using this?

Were you using the static values of Mini Six?

If not, I'm curious what took the extra time, as they both use the same system; Mini Six just has less skills and attributes compared to regular Star Wars.

Heh. I've run the same adventure four times using the same system and it's never taken the same amount of time twice.

Sorry! I used static values as stated in the rules and combat moved along quickly. What took the most time was explaining things to the new guy. But he picked up on the minisix system quicker then RAW.

Oh, man, you're missing out on the Open D6 boom. Let me give you a brief history in the downfall of WEG.

Once upon a time West End Games was producing Star Wars games, and everything was happy. However, it became clear that they weren't hanging on to Star Wars forever. They determined that the system was not intrinsically bound to the Star Wars IP, so they made it a stand alone system.

They used the system with little success as a generic roleplaying system and with other unsuccessful intellectual properties. Ergo, WEG went bankrupt.

Eventually WEG got purchased by Eric Gibson. For a while, things looked interesting. He split the D6 system into three core settings. However, organization was bad, books didn't sell as well as he'd like, no one bought the license to use D6, and so things went down the toilet.

D6 lie fallow.

Eric was talking about releasing D6 into an Open Gaming License so you can make your own D6 games, use the core mechanics and do all sorts of things with the rules without having to pay anything. After talking about it nothing happened. People asked him about it, still nothing happened. People got sick of waiting and so they invented a handful of D6 mechanics that relied on six-sided dice but without calling themselves "D6." Some of them are the Cinema 6 system, and the mini-six system.

Then Eric saw everything was fragmenting so he released D6 as Open D6. All the D6 variants more or less decided that they would all go OGL. Now, for better or for worse, we have half a dozen D6 systems.

Many people favor Mini-Six because it does what D6 does well. It's simple, it's versatile, and it's adaptable. Peter Schweighoffer actually said that he likes the Mini-Six best out of all the variants that have cropped up.

Yeah and now WEG sits in limbo land and fading away from everything and Eric won't sell the name or trademark....sad..

Why he won't part with it is somewhat of a mystery to me. Any properties the company held he's now sold off piecemeal.

Agreed. I think he just wants the name. A friend of mine offered a nice amount to buy the company off him a year ago, and he said no. Not accepting offers, thanks.

I did look, the WEG trademark seems to be in limbo.

Not that I can speak for him, but Eric probably has some sort of rose-colored ideal of the type of person that should be in charge of West End Games. So he's not willing just to give it to the first person (or second, third, fourth, etc.) that throws a large amount of money at him. It's a completely idealistic viewpoint, one that can't see that West End Games (as it is now) has absolutely no street credibility. It only exists in people's mind as a "once was great" game company, not as a currently or even recently great game company.

So it's probably a case of him waiting to get that warm-fuzzy feeling from a person, someone who he feels would drive West End Games in the right direction and give him top dollar for the company.

Essentially, it'll likely never be sold.
