Let's say you were going to make up a template for a player for your SW game.
Would you automatically make it force sensitive? a Force user?
Should they be blind LIKE chirrut was?

What would his attribute spread be, and skills?

From what I saw in the movie and have listened to in the book, I'd say no--definitely not an automatic Force User.

But, I think I'd read Guardian of the Whills first, before making that decision.

By template, are you talking about something like the templates in the reule books?

And do you require your players to use a premade template?

I do. But, I'm not an Ogre if a player really wants to customize the attributes from what is indicated on the template.

I would not require blindness nor force-sensitivity, and I wouldn't necessarily make force-sensitive monks force users. Baze was also a member of that order, after all.

Yup. Most every dm i have played with used the templates from the main book, occasionally adding in templates from other books (like heroes and rogues, or rules of engagement). A rare few didn't bother with templates..

Chirrut was "unique" imho.

For the R1 galaxy guide we statted him as such, giving him the template type designation of "Devout Guardian of the Whills."

IIRC, the attribute spread we gave him was:

DEXTERITY 3D+2
KNOWLEDGE 2D+2
MECHANICAL 2D
PERCEPTION 4D
STRENGTH 3D+2
TECHNICAL 2D

His blindness was of course, particular to him, and we stated that he was an example of a character who, by RAW, "gained" Force Sensitivity through his devotion, paying those 20 character points over time. His martial arts were a separate specialization of zawa-shiwo, and we'd had him at a true Master level of 12D, granting him a small amount of special techniques that mimicked the Force power of Concentration, but at higher difficulty, calling it "Mantra", and a revised version of Blindfighting made more applicable to overall actions w/in a certain radius, called "the Inward Eye."

I don't have a particular problem with Chirrut being force sensitive or a force user, mind... if nothing else, I think it is the most efficient way to describe him in the WEG system.

+1. There are just too many things that Chirrut does that it can't be reasonably explained [i]unless[i] he was (an untrained) Force-sensitive.

Or that the meditative practices of the Guardians constituted training... training that was largely lost on non-Force sensitives.

We've discussed this at length elsewhere. I would interpret Chirrut Îmwe as being Force-sensitive, having Control and Sense but not Alter. I think that he would be a cool inspiration for a PC template, blind or not.

So would he potentially be of that race that's blind but can see via the force, the Mirulkian?? (spelling unsure)..

In my estimation, the sense skill makes blindness almost irrelevant from a game mechanics point of view.

I have not seen rogue one, but Im guessing the character is "blind" ina similar way that daredevil is "blind." (i.e. he moves and acts just as if he could see).

And don't forget under special abilities..

Dude, go buy it on Blu-ray. You will not be disappointed.

For the record, though, there are a few times when Chirrut's blindness does actually hinder him, though the severity of the hindrance does vary a bit. When he's stomping stormtroopers he's not hindered at all, but when he's trying to find a particular control console, he still has his staff in front of him like a blind man's walking stick, trying to feel around for something solid in front of him. But yeah, trying to find a way to stat this under D6 rules would be problematic...but not impossible. See here for a Character sheet of Chirrut that I copied down from an unofficial partial Galaxy Guide: Rogue One book someone made a few months back (no, it's not the Womp Rat Press book).
