My players want to add a forward firing laser to their YT-1930. Do you guys think there is already a mount there, or do you think that they would have to add a mount/hardpoint/whatever the term is?

Tractorbeam projectors are located one in each of the cargo mandibles , I would allow to replace one with the other.

Is there some reason that it matters whether a mount preexists?

A mount means they can install the laser with a repair roll. No mount makes it an engineering roll, and they'd have to give up some cargo tonnage.

Even exiting mount still means they'd lose (imo) some tonnage just from the added weight of the weapon.. but they'd like you said, would be able to do it with just a repair roll. No existing mount, would be an engineering roll.

Depending on the two weapons, though, you might also gain tonnage... if your previous weapon was heavy, but your subsequent weapon was relatively light, for example.

True, trading down is always a weight gainer. BUT just cause the ship's been fitting to have the capacity to hold a mount there, doesn't mean it ever HAD an actual weapon system there..

Of all the Corellian YT freighters, the 1930 is by far my favorite. What can I say, I got a thing for symetrical spaceships. Razz 8)

After reviewing the corellian ships I went with two front arc mounts.

I see. I was thinking more along the lines of "GM just decides whatever makes most sense to him."

Are the players going to do it themselves?

This is the key question.
Doing it yourself is hard

Having it done to me as a GM would cost only credits, a lot of credits but still

They were going to pay for it, but then a powerful NPC offered to do the job for free in return for a favor down the road.

They agonized over the decision, but made the deal.
