BoSS is now canon!

It is mentioned in TLJ's Incredible Cross Sections books.

And, so is the planet Celanon, for that matter (both made up for WEG's D6 game, originally).

And, The Corporate Sector is also now canon. The Canto Bite casino is on a world called Contonica, which is a desert world that has been terraformed. And, it sits in the Corporate Sector.

What is BoSS?

Bureau of Ships and Services, created by WEG for the D6 Star Wars game.

You'll find it in books like Platt's Starship Guide, Pirates & Privateers, and several other WEG books.

You'll also find it in Wookieepedia: BoSS

The new "gorilla" walker that we see in TLJ is designated the AT-M6. The "M6" means MegaCaliber Six Turbo Laser.

This is a siege engine weapon. I don't think that was made clear in the movie (the bigger siege weapon was used--the one that Finn tried to crash into).

The reason the front legs are redesigned (to resemble a knuckle walker) is to support the M6 from its recoil.

So, where the usual AT-AT is a general design vehicle that can be converted to several missions, the AT-M6 is a more specialized vehicle designed specifically for sieges. It has heavier armor, and much of its interior is given to turbines, batteries, power cells, and gun control.

The command "head" of the AT-M6 features two dual "chin" mounted turbo lasers plus two anti-vehicle canons.

Would not better classification for the AT-M6 Be a mobile artillery.
With the cannon thinge that Finn crashed as the breach weapon.
Much like a ram.

To me there are many SWU classification that really makes no sense.

The cannon thing was being pulled by a different vehicle.

The Ski-Speeder is a sport vehicle aimed at the public, built by the Verpine (who also built the B-Wing). It was meant for use on asteroids.

It's kind of a Star Wars X-Treme sports asteroid buggy!

Drivers/Pilots would place these things on asteroids and do all sorts of maneuvers, using the ski to jump off of rocks and slopes and such.

The sport's popularity waned, and the Ski-Speeders were sold off. A group of Rebels, backed by some people on Alderaan, bought some of these surplus sports vehicles, replaced the wing-tip camera with blaster cannon, and used them for patrol on Crait. This was BEFORE the Alliance came into existence at the very early days of the Rebellion.

I'm reading issue #92 of the original Marvel run from the 70's, 80's, and 90's. It's a story called The Dream.

It's extremely interesting because this could be a prequel to The Last Jedi. The time is immediately after the Battle of Endor. The Alliance is still on the forest moon. Luke is having nightmares where he sees Darth Vader come to him and start to take off his mask, but Luke struggles for him to keep it on.

I haven't finished the story yet, but the novelization of TLJ begins with Luke having a dream that turns out to be a omen through the Force.

In the story, Ackbar and the Alliance encourage Luke to start training Jedi, but he refuses. He realizes what a responsibility that is, and he doesn't feel qualified to take it on.

This plays right into Luke's major hang-up in TLJ--that hubris got to him, and he knew, just knew, that he could train the raw power he saw in Ben Solo. But, when he did, the action blew up in his face. He ended up destroying the family of his sister and his best friend and creating a monster to rival Darth Vader--setting him loose on the galaxy.

I'm sure it is just coincidence (or, who knows, maybe Rian Johnson read this and it sprouted his ideas), but it is uncanny how this comic from February, 1992, fits in with an unexpected story about the same character a quarter century later.

Also, I think this is the first time I've seen a hand holo projector in Star Wars.

The story you refer to was published in 1984. The original Marvel run of Star Wars comic ended in 1986, and the Dark Horse started publishing Star Wars comics in late 1991.

I was curious if there were any explanation why the lightsabers didn't tear up the weapons used by Snoke's Praetorian guard.

For the weapons, there's this fine, torch-like spike of flame that shoots out in front of the blade of the weapons. This is a "electro plasma blade," capable of deflecting a lightsaber. The melee weapons are supposed to be ultra expensive and ultra high tech.

The Praetorian armor has filaments that creates an intense, local magnetic field that, again, protects the wearer from a lightsaber blow. Note that this is not 100% effective, as we saw in the film. The armor is heavy, expensive, and the mag field is painful for the wearer.

There's not much on the background of the Guard. Snoke wanted the red armor to resemble the Emperor's Royal Guard in the "what's old is new" fashion of the First Order.

And, there's this...

Quote:
The origins of the Praetorians remains a mystery. The name itself dates back to the 14th Atrisian Emperor of Kitel Phard.

Whatever that means.

Probably Rule of Cool, if nothing else.

Really? Some Separatist droids in RotS had staves that were resistant to lightsaber blades, and some FO stormtroopers in TFA had riot weapons that did that. (Remember the guy who said "traitor" and engaged Finn on Maz's planet?) For the red guards in TLJ, I just figured it was more of the same.

I completely forgave its existence in RotS and TFA because the movies otherwise had killer, proper lightsaber duels. In TLJ it's a point of disappointment for me because it replaces proper lightsaber dueling.

I was expecting to see something about cortosis weave, but to my knowledge, that hasn't been made part of the new canon.

As long as whatever it is that can deflect lightsabers is (A) not 100% effective, and (B) very expensive and/or very hard to use, I'm OK with it.

TLJ stuff meets these requirements.

Plus...I guess we're seeing some technology increase, too.

The riot weapon in TFA is less forgivable, imo.

The technology increase doesn't track with it appearing in RotS and not in the classic films, but yes, it make sense if it is very expensive and rare. And there certainly isn't any increase between TFA and TLJ because the movies overlap each other (meaning everything "new" in TLJ already existed during TFA offscreen).

Hey, I actually read a canon YA book (Before The Awakening) that addresses that a bit. The implication was that those troopers were actually trained to fight any surviving Jedi students that might still be out there. We know from both films that Snoke is absolutely obsessed with completely destroying the Jedi. Even though Kylo Ben's faction of Luke's school killed the good ones, there still could be rogue Jedi traditions out there from the rise of the Empire. Or just people using lightsabers they found and appear to be Jedi or might even give the galaxy hope that the Jedi will save them from the First Order. So Snoke spared no expense at having some troops that can deal with these lightsaber-wielding enemies, despite how rare they may be.

I guess I'm a little slow sometimes. I've always been confused about Anakin Skywalker being the "Chosen One" from prophecy. Prophecy to do...what? To bring Balance to the Force?

TLJ Visual Dictionary says that the ancient Jedi prophecy foretold the end of the Sith. And, albeit in a round about way, Vader certainly did that by killing Emperor Palpatine.

"And I helped!"

-- Luke skywalker

It is interesting that Snoke wears a ring with a piece of obsidian from the caverns beneath Vader's castle on Mustafar.

I believe it was the TLJ Cross Section book that said that there is a Dark Side nexus, or something close to it, in the bowels of the planet. Hm...or, maybe that was the Darth Vader comic where that came out....I can't remember.

Yeah, I think it was the Vader comic because that's where Vader went to possess his new lightsaber (where the comic says that a Sith must not only take his lightsaber from a Jedi, but also infuse is will into the crystal to dominate it--and in the process turn the color of the blade made by the crystal to red. All Sith have red blades.)

Snoke's Attendants

Snoke's Attendants are aliens with long heads from the Unknown Regions.

Quote:
Snoke's retinue includes mute alien navigators who originated in the Unknown Regions. Were it not for the ancient hyperspace trails blazed by these towering servants, the Imperial survivors who fled into this uncharted realm would certainly have perished. These navigators designed and operate the oculus viewing scope in Snoke's throne room.

Wow! Look at the emphasis on hyperspace routes! How important they are to traveling the galaxy. Without a good route, a region remains unexplored.

Reminds me of exploring the Earth in the Unknown Regions of Africa and the like in real history.

I was splitting this thread and must have accidentally moved the above post to a new thread, and unfortunately we can split but not merge threads here so I couldn't move the post back. I'm sorry. I deleted it on the wrong thread but captured the text through backspacing and put it above as a quote.

Why do Jedi seem to seek Death?

I think it is interesting that Luke says that he came to Ahch-to to die. Not to live out his remaining years, but to die.

Let's see. Luke is 19 during ANH. Three years later, he is 22 during TESB. Two years after that, he's 24 for RotJ.

Then, there's 30 years to TFA/TLJ, which would make Luke about 54 or so.

Why is he looking to die at 54?

Then, I think about Kenobi in ANH. The Galaxy needs him to train Luke in order to defeat the Emperor. Luke is the last hope (no...there is another!).

Why does Kenobi, who probably has a decade or two, at the minimum, left in him, just put his lightsaber at rest and take Lord Vader's blow?

It's almost as if they are eager to merge with the Force--to become whatever it is that they become.

Is it because of their belief? Like a Holy man eager to get to Heaven?

Or, is it something else?
