That's how you can tell they're a clone. Extra U's. If I ever start signing things as MrNeuxx, you know I've been cloned. Wink

Wait, if Mara Jade had been cloned in the Legends 'verse, would that mean that her clone would have been called Marau Jade or Mara Jaude or even Maura Juade? Just how many extra "U"s do you need to qualify as a clone? Does it have to be a Double U? Or a W? (See what I did there?)

My head hurts.

It could also just be a duplicate of a single vowel in the name, so Maara or Maraa. The “add a U” might just be a coincidence of having both cloned characters in the Thrawn Trilogy have a U in their name.

I'd go with Maura Jade, since it doesn't change the pronunciation.

I see what you did there.

I don't think it's a coincidence. I think Zahn decided Luke's clone would be named Luuke, and then intentionally named his Jedi Master with a u in his name (Jorus C'baoth) so that his clone could likewise have the extra u (Joruus C'baoth). In Zahn's original outline for the Thrawn Trilogy, the clone Jedi Master was going to be a clone of Obi-Wan Kenobi but Lucas specifically rejected Obi-Wan ever having been cloned. Maybe his clone would have been Obi-Waan because a duplicated vowel just sounds more clonish than adding a specific vowel (a clone is a copy afterall).

But with Maul having a u in it already, I just couldn't resist calling his clone "Mauul".

Some things I’m interested in.

-The AT Hauler used for the train heist has some possibilities, but I need more info.

-I already did stats for the gun pod TIE, but I need to go back and reconsider those now that more info is available.

-In my stat re-write, I made swoops into souped-up speeder bikes with limited altitude. The use of swoops at high altitudes in the train heist would seem to indicate that they are, in fact, capable of high altitude operation.

-I’ve had plans to write stats for power-weapons as a WH40K crossover for some time (solid weapons that generate an energy field around them). Both Solo and TLJ would seem to indicate that such weaponry is no longer just a crossover.

There is some EU precedent for the Emperor cloning his apprentici. I don’t remember the exact source, but I read somewhere the possibility that the Vader in Splinter of the Mind’s Eye was a clone, created without the real Vader’s knowledge. Vader eventually found out and killed all the others in a murderous rage, but not before the first one was sent on the mission to Mimban. The clone was an imperfect copy, and did not have the real Anakin’s memories, which would explain him not knowing Luke was his son in SotME.

You've mentioned Vader's clone before. I'm pretty sure that's fanon. But it does help reconcile SotME with film canon.

Are you thinking of the cartoons with Cylo?
He was a continous clone, and was at least set up to possibly be Vader's replacement

Okay, so, first stat post, updated from what I originally posted here.

TIE/rb Starfighter

Image

The basic TIE Starfighter is a highly specialized space superiority and fleet escort fighter. Because of this specialization, it is deficient in other areas, such as reconnaissance, ordnance delivery and heavy energy weapons, and TIE variants have been produced to counter those deficiencies. The TIE/rb (for Reinforcement Battery) is one such example. Based on an expanded TIE fuselage, the TIE/rb mounts a modular gun pod that can be fitted with a variety of different energy weapons, depending on the mission requirements. This allows the TIE/rb to provide heavy combat support to the lighter, faster TIEs when engaging tougher targets, such as Alliance fighters or heavily armed shuttles and freighters. While it sacrifices some speed and maneuverability, it is also more durable than a standard TIE, and is also one of the first TIE models to be equipped with deflector shields.

Craft: Seinar Fleet Systems' TIE/rb
Type: Heavy Weapons Starfighter
Scale: Starship (+6D)
Length: 6.3 meters
Skill: Starship Piloting: TIE/rb
Crew: 1, plus Imperial Copilot Droid
Crew Skill:
Gunnery 4D
Piloting 4D+1
Sensors 4D
Cargo Capacity: 65 kg
Consumables: 2 days
Maneuverability: 2D
Space: 7 (3D+2)
Atmosphere: 350; 1,000 kph
Hull: 2D+2 (Particle Shields: 1D)
Shields: 1D
Sensors:
Passive 20/0D
Scan 40/1D
Search 60/2D
Focus 3/3D
Weapons:
1 Modular Heavy Weapons Pod
Fire Arc: Front
Skill: Starship Gunnery
Fire Control: 3D
Weapon Types: Pick 2
    Heavy Laser Cannon
    Range:
    --Space: 1-3/12/25
    --Orbital: 2km-6km/24km/50km
    --Atmosphere: 100m-300m/1.2km/2.5km
    Damage: 6D
    Heavy Ion Cannon
    Range:
    --Space: 1-3/7/16
    --Atmosphere: 100m/300m/700m/1.6km
    Damage: 4D (ionization)
    Heavy Auto-Blaster Cannon
    Range:
    --Space: 1-8/25/40
    --Atmosphere Range: 100m-800m/2.5km/4km
    Rate of Fire: 2D Auto-Fire
    Damage: 4D
    Light Warhead Launcher
    Rate of Fire: 1
All Other Stats vary by Weapon Type
Capacity: 3 per Launcher. May select Light Missiles & Rockets from this list, depending on Availability.
Note: If two weapons of the same type are selected, they are automatically fire-linked, and receive a +1D bonus that can be allocated to either Damage or Fire Control.

The version seen in Solo would've been fitted with dual Auto-Blaster Cannon, as evidenced by the sustained high rate of fire. The idea is a space combat counterpart to the TIE/gt that is designed to engage heavier targets than most TIEs are normally capable of engaging.

House Rule Notes:
    SHIELD & SHIELD CONTROL: 1D @ 1D
    VELOCITY MODIFIER: 2D Flight

Cool.

http://fandom.wikia.com/articles/solo-a-star-wars-story-easter-eggs?

This is cool. I caught most of these references on my first viewing, and a few more on my second viewing. Are there any others not mentioned here?

Pablo Hidalgo confirmed that the skull in in Dryden Vos’ office is a reference to the cover of Han Solo and the Lost Legacy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZm48CKKIUc

Tobias was pretty f*** badass and was basically my favorite part of the movie. Just....badass.

It seems like the writers of Solo also play a lot of Only War or are huge Warhammer 40k fans, since the Mimban scene wouldn't be out of place as a Only War campaign. I also like how they remembered the Imperial Army exists. Someone here said that the Mudtroopers were Stormies, they were Imperial Army.

Lando's droid could've been done better, Lando himself was great. Donald Glover even looks like a younger Lando.

I honestly assumed Qi'ra was gonna die for some cheap drama. I'm happy she wasn't. I do like how they had her and crimeboss boyfriend person use Teras Kasi.

The Crimeboss weird blade things were the dumbest looking thing.

I can't' really remember much of the plot of that novel, but the cover of that book was the first thing I thought of when I saw that skull. Cool.

For those worried about it bombing, Solo: A Star Wars Story has Already Gained Back its Budget, and then some. I didn't know that with the reshoots, Solo's total cost was $250 million, making it the most expensive Star Wars movie ever made. As of Wednesday it's worldwide gross was over $270 million. It's still #1 in the box office.
