I like it. Comes in handy for small groups by taking some of the load off of a pilot operating a multi-crew space transport while everyone else mans the guns.

Ah, I see space transports is a knowedge skill nowadays. Razz

Joking aside, what is your take on the planetary systems skill and its relevance to navigation? Do you think the droid should have such a skill, or should it rely on the nav computer to "know" where/how to get where it wants to go?

How much different is this guy from an astromech droid in terms of its purpose (and does its cost reflect the difference, if there is one)?

This is really meant as a bare-bones droid, able to make calculations but does not really have knowledge in specific planets, trade routes, etc. It has no personality and just fills in on skills. The idea of this droid was to cover some skills in a logical way, but not to overshadow players.

Sine this droid is designed to do alot of other skills, my thoughts was to go with the humanoid appearance if nothing more than to interact with crew easier. This can include starport crew and possibly inspectors. Whereas with a R2 unit, if you don't speak binary, good luck.

Also, was 3M-TA3 just a bit too obvious? Laughing

I do not understand the reference. I just made up the name.

Pretty close, except it can speak with humans, it can perform some additional skills that an R2 could do, but is not trained in. But you are correct, its pretty much a different version of an R2 unit, but then again, aren't most droids a variation of another, especially when they are doing the same job(s)?

If you look at 3M-TA3 in a mirror, it reads as EAT-ME.

It's a custom license plate out there somewhere. Since this was a pilot droid, I figured it was an inside joke.

EDIT: 3M-T3 = ET-ME, so the joke is still there, just more subtle.

Seems cool to me. Especially in light of the humanoid copilot droids in movies lately.

I like this very much. Just one minor suggestion:

What about expanding the droid's sensor range to include infrared and radiation to assist in repairs and act as a safety feature for the squishy crew?

Another great write-up. Thank you!

Interesting idea, but to be honest, this is an entry-level supplemental droid crew member. Its not supposed to have all the bells and whistles nor is it supposed to be better than the heroes. It is mean to fill a niche. With that being said though, I am not sure how the addition of infrared or ultraviolet vision would help with repairs. I am open to having my mind changed, I just need a reasonable explanation as to why.

I suggested infrared and radiation spectrums to assist in repairs by detecting fires or hot spots in equipment and radiation leaks. It has a 5D repair skill so it's pretty good at diagnosing problems and then fixing them, so I thought the enhanced detection spectrums might help back up that figure.

Basic passive sensors are also usually cheap so having them standard on a co-pilot droid makes sense as a complement to the other accessories. I didn't list the radiation spectrum because I have no idea what energy a subspace or hyperspace drive spews out but it's probably bad for organics, and part of a co-pilot's duties are ensuring the safety of the crew.

That's it, really. Not so much an enhancement (maybe limit the detection ranges outside of the visual spectrum to 5 meters - can't really do much outside of troubleshooting with that) as a means of explaining how the droid is so good at its job.
