Just wanted to see if anyone has a good feel for Rakata starships. I'm not exactly trying to stat them out at this point, as much as get a feeling for the size. In my investigations, the most common ship seems to be "variable geometry assault ship," though there appears to be a variant with stubbier wing/nacelle things that could be the same base ship or entirely different. There is also a "mobile indoctrination center" which may or may not be the same ship again. Finally, there is a "landing craft" which lacks the top nacelle, but again, the center sphere might or might not be the same one.

So.. what's the general feeling on these ships? All the same sphere but with purpose driven addons? Multiple classes of varying size with a similar design aesthetic? Either way, apart from "big capital ship," what kind of size are we talking?

I was confused for a minute because when you said "He's..." I at first thought you were talking to everyone else reading about garhkal. But I've never heard of Species 8472 so I looked them up and now realize you were telling garhkal what ships Argentsaber was talking about.

garhkal is talking about these. I only saw season one of Star Trek: Voyager when it first aired and remember almost none of it. In my current ongoing mission to complete the the two Trek shows I haven't seen, I am slowly working my way through DS9 and Voy. I am on seasons 3 of DS9 and just started Voyager, so I haven't gotten to Species 8472 yet. I'm also no expert on the Rakata and haven't even read up on them lately, so I really can't say whether these ST alien ships would be a good fit.

If you can tough it out through season 3 of DS9, then you're in for a treat. Sisko shaves his head and becomes 'Space Shaft', Worf shows up and snarls at everyone, and the show gets a LOT more interesting in season 4.

Likewise in Voyager, if you can get through the Kes episodes, you're golden. Just be prepared for LOTS of Borg once Seven of Nine arrives.

As for the Rakatan ships, I've never seen much about them. I recall the Star Forge could manufacture thousands of them, but we don't really see what they can do in KOTOR. Species 8472 could serve as a basis, but they seem to have relatively small agile ships and the Rakatan vessels are probably very large to hold 1000 crew.

I've had Seasons 6 & 7 on DVD for years (The Dominion War arc lasting for those 2 seasons is just LOADED with awesome) and just got Season 5 a few months ago. 5 isn't quite as good as 6 & 7, but it's still good. I may splurge and get Season 4 sometime soon; I haven't seen "Heart of Stone" in decades and would love to see it again.

I liked how the Borg were presented when they were new in TNG, but they went through quite a bit of Villain Decay during Voyager. That being said, I can't in good conscience object to the Seven of Nine Fanservice.

To actually answer the original question, you're probably looking at 300 meters in length. That's big enough to house all 1000+ beings, but not in great comfort. I'm ballparking that off the Dreadnought, which carried over 16,000 crew in 600 meters, but it was 116 metesr wide with one contiguous hull and of inferior technology to the Rakatans. Judging by the pictures, the Rakatan ship has comparitively less internal area so that's my opinion of its length.

Swerving back to DS9 for a moment: Season 6's In the Pale Moon Light is my absolute favorite of that series.

Tough it out is right! Although a huge Trek fan since the summer in junior high (mid-80s) that I watched the entire TOS in daily syndication, I never watched much of DS9 or Voyager because of not liking the characters, including the captains. So far my recent run through DS9 has only reinforced that while I can somewhat appreciate the character of Sisko, I just can't stand Avery Brooks's acting, so Sisko is often annoying. However I can report that my dislike of all the other characters has actually lessened somewhat, but so far the only character I've actually grown to enjoy on any level is Quark. I've heard great things about where the story is going, but if Avery Brooks doesn't change his William Shatner wanna-be method, I will be hard pressed to getting into it much. I've seen a few episodes with Worf and I am looking forward to him coming because Worf is awesome. I am skeptical though that he alone can save the show for me though.

I really like the premise of Voyager, more than DS9's (but like that more with the Defiant). I've only just started Voyager and am reminded of Janeway's annoying grandma-sounding voice. But she was never as bothersome to me as Sisko and I find that I can mostly get through episodes without being distracted by her voice. I like the Doctor (and Chakotay is ok), but I'm still annoyed by Neelix so far. Most of the characters are a whole lotta meh so far. And the last episode I watched was a really stupid nonsensical time-travel episode. It had potential but they ruined it.

I have been told that my Trek fandom isn't true (and opinions aren't educated enough) because I haven't even seen everything, so I am toughing it out. But I digress and shouldn't tangent into Trek here. I'll have to create a new thread since we keep doing that!

Thanks. In order to clarify what I am talking about, what is the preferred method of sharing images here?

Is it me or are those images just the same shape as the Star Forge but just in different sizes and environments? It's like the comic book artists couldn't come up with a more varied Rakata design aesthetic. Razz

Agreed; nothing here inspires me to write up stats, even if the ships in questions wouldn't be thousands of years old by the time of the classic era.

I'm not actually thinking of writing up stats so much as trying to figure out if those balls are all generally the same core unit being used in different ways or entirely separate, and if so how big. I'm planning on having one buried beneath a temple (essentially held in a kind of force stasis), and I have a player who is quite familiar with these older comics so I am trying to iron out a few details.
