Is there a known method for naming Imperial ships?

I am trying to name an Imperial Customs Guardian Light Cruiser that the captain is an Inquisitor.

Not that i've seen, other than for ISD's they generally seem to have 'death and destruction, or resilience and strength' like names..

Basically, think of a slogan that a totalitarian regime would use, and extract one word. That's your Imperial starship.

Check out some Royal Navy ship names. Especially for patrol boats such as the Archer-class. Some of those work well enough.

You could also give it a letter-and-numbers code since it's just not important enough to warrant a name, being a 40+ metre long jumped up transport.

Indeed. I think with a fleet with enough ships of all types to patrol the Galaxy...unique names would run out pretty fast. Especially the really 'cool' ones.

It's hard enough to log on to a computer network on earth with a cool name that doesn't require misspellings and numbers and emojis.

There's a fun play on this in the fan fic Hull 721, where in a manner similar to aircraft nose art from WW2, the smaller ships of the Imperial Navy have become too numerous to be assigned their own names, and are simply given numbers. In this region, Fleet Command gave the crew permission to "christen" their own ships, with some truly hilarious results...
