I just happened upon some old pictures I thought were lost, and found this. I know it's crappy resolution, but this is me in California many years ago, in the desert west of Yuma, AZ (very close to Mexico) where they filmed the sail barge sequence for Return of the Jedi. The picture was taken by my then-girlfriend (now wife). We didn't stay too long because it was over well over 100°.

This is my only visit to a Star Wars film location (and my only visit to California). Has anyone else been to any film locations?

I've ridden around the pyramids of Giza at a full gallop, I've drank out of my cupped hands from the shores of Loch Ness, and held an Atlantean sword in my own two hands. But I have never been to an actual Star Wars location. One of these days I'll get there...

Awesome! Riding a camel?

Ew, gross. I couldn't stop thinking about all the microorganisms I'd be drinking. See any lake creatures?

Atlantean? As in from the mythical Atlantis?!

You probably will, but I doubt any Star Wars filming location will ever top Giza.

I think it'd be nice to go to Redwood in Northern California someday and see Endor. If it hasn't burnt down by then (knocks on wood).

No, a horse. I don't like camels.

The sword was a Minoan Crete blade, nothing more than a large dagger as swords were in the bronze age. I had, at that moment, already long subscribed to the historical theory that Minion Cretan civilization was/is the origin of the Atlantis myth.

I don't worry too much about microorganisms drinking from one lake one time.

I did see a lot of boat wakes, which probably account for most "monster" sightings. Loch Ness is weird, chemically and geographically, and the wakes from passing boats come in waves of dark oblong blurs that appears to move just below the surface then "submerge". Though they aren't submerging, they're dissipating.

Not many people like camels. Hell, camels don't like camels.

As far as I know, Minoan Crete is still a likely contributor to the Atlantis myth (not the sole origin, but one of the contributors). You don't think so anymore?

No, I still do. It was an island regional superpower. And it was "destroyed" (more likely, weakened out of superpower status) by a natural disaster. And according to modern archeology it matches up pretty close to the description of "Atlantean" society.

On the side topic of Atlantis, I read an article not too long ago (and watched a video) that talked about Atlantis and how they are now placing it in a plateau area in Africa. It has the concentric ring remnants, ghost remnants of buildings in the centeral area, and the depressed rings show signs of sea water as recent as 2000 years ago meaning it could have been a livable area back then.

Cool. I think there were multiple real Atlantises that contributed to the myth.

You also have to recall that right off the bat, there's a Greek getting his info from an Egyptian. Who knows what details were mistranslated.
