Destroyers by definition are meant to be faster than battleships, however I think what we have in Star wars is destroyers that do the role of battleships.

I thik the destroyers shouls have 5-6 in speed maybe even 7, as destroyers are meant to be fast.

In naval terminology, a destroyer is a fast, maneuverable, long-endurance warship intended to escort larger vessels in a fleet, convoy or battle group and defend them against powerful short range attackers.

It's pretty clear that the SWU isn't really tied to real world naval nomenclature. As near as I can tell, the RW "destroyer" has been folded into the SWU "frigate", with "destroyer" referring to a large, multi-purpose warship that incorporates the roles of dreadnought, carrier (fighters and/or troops) and monitor (planetary bombard). The way I figure those three roles is:
    Dreadnought - Heavily armored, with powerful energy weaponry used primarily in an anti-ship role.

    Carrier - Lots of open space for transporting vehicles, equipment and troops.

    Monitor - Heavily armored, and equipped with lots of ordnance launchers, and magazine space for specialized ordnance for planetary bombardment.
These roles can be blended to create different "mission types" for large capital ships; a Star Cruiser would combine both the Dreadnought and Carrier roles, while a Star Monitor would combine Dreadnought and Monitor, and so on and so forth.

There's a series of fanon definitions that basically puts the Star Destroyer as the low-to-mid-scale ship, with anything shorter than the 900m Victory-class as being a 'Star Frigate'.

Stuff bigger than an Allegiance-class or Secutor-class would be considered a Star Cruiser or Star Battlecruiser. The Praetor and Procurator class ships, for instance.

Anything bigger than that category is a Star Dreadnought, i.e. the Legator or Bellator through to Assertor and Executor.

EDIT: More officially, there's the Anaxes War College System.

Not a fan. There's a topic elsewhere where the statement was made that the Anaxes system was overly simplistic, and if implemented in the real world, would be the sort of system designed to impress laymen and politicians rather than an accurate description of size, power levels and missions.

My considered opinion on that fanon classification system is that it's an attempt to cram a Star Wars peg into a real world hole based on the insistence that a fictional galaxy far, far away will utilize the same nomenclature as the modern real world navies. Film evidence even specifically refers to what that fanon calls a "star dreadnought" as a "super star destroyer" (see Ackbar at Endor).

It's been awhile! Since I started this thread, I've had two kids and changed jobs twice. Wow, has it been that long?

I'm back now with a big breakthrough! I don't have the individual rooms yet, but I've successfully subdivided the entire ship into sections and assigned functions to each area! This is something I'm super excited to share:

S=Superstructure, E=Engineering Section

As before, the ship is divided into two sections, Superstructure (Decks 0-59, rotated 4.5 degrees down towards the bow), and Engineering (Decks 60-117). Each deck is 3 meters tall, with 1 meter of inter-deck gravplating, machinery, and crawlspaces.

This is absolutely phenomenal! I remember when we worked on this nearly 11 years ago! We went over nearly every pixel of every image we could find, and scoured the internet for any scrap of information.

This is really the culmination of a great deal of work.
