No autoimmune disease, but I do have chronic pain that'll never go away, only, maybe medicated to being tolerable.

Apparently I've had this situation with me for decades at this point. It was just fobbed off by my doctors back home through the years. And not brought up with my doctors in Winnipeg because, well, "The other doctors said it was nothing, just toughen up."

Anyhow, I kind of hijacked this thread enough. Good luck, Whill!

I'm sorry to hear about your chronic pain, Ray... I've been living in pretty constant pain for the last 4 or 5 years and it's not fun. I have to wait for my stuff to get worse before "fixing" it is an option. I've got 3 bulging discs in my lower lumbar, and I hurt all the time. They're not badly bulging enough to make surgery a viable option, but damn, nerve pain sucks. So, with that said, I hope you find some way to still find enjoyment in your life. I'm rooting for you!

Raven, I'm sorry to hear about your chronic pain too.

My mom has had displaced discs that got bad enough to require surgeries in recent years. She started losing feeling in extremities and her back was getting so out of alignment that she was told she would definitely lose her ability to walk without surgeries. She first got a more minor neck surgery that didn't improve much, and then got had a major operation lower in her back when they permanently installed metal rails and screws. We took turns taking care of her during her long recovery. Her pain and numbness are better now.

They tell her there is still no guarantee she won't lose her ability to walk some day, but so far she still can but only with a lean to one side. She cannot even stand up completely straight anymore. The doctor gave her a picture of a post-operation x-ray of her back. It's nuts. I call my mom a cyborg but she doesn't think its that funny.

I hope your pain gets better and your condition never gets as bad as hers.

My chronic pain isn't caused by any (fixable) physical reason, and I've always had it, so now it's a matter of getting the meds that I should have had since I was a kid. This might be the push that gets me on permanent Disability, however. That means less forms for me, which I'll be greatful.

But it explains a lot about why I didn't fight back against armies of bullies I had to deal with. I hurt myself with every blow.

Anyhow, thank you very much for kind words. I, personally, wish people didn't need to entirely fall apart before the medical community decides to finally do something. A stitch in time and all that.

So the shock wave lithotripsy on my right kidney seems to have been completely successful. They think the stone was completely disintegrated. I will have annual check-ups where I get an x-ray to look for new stones forming, and deal with them as needed.

I had misunderstood about the aneurysm. It is not near my bladder, but rather on the renal artery that provides blood to my left kidney. I must have had my brother on my mind. (He had his second cancerous mass removed from his bladder only a year after the first one, so now he is going through chemotherapy where they inject the chemicals directly into his bladder weekly in hopes that this will kill the cancer completely so it doesn't grow back.)

So the vascular specialist I finally got to see for my aneurysm said there is some calcium shell that encasing the aneurysm, preventing it from growing bigger. I could have had this for many years. He said what I have is not very common but there is no surgery needed at this point and I just have to get CT scans every six months to check on it. He said he will consult with his colleagues about it but for now, if it doesn't change, then it's seems ok.

My urologist said that if I do develop a stone in my left kidney that the shock wave lithotripsy won't be an option because that could upset the shell around the aneurysm, which means that they would have to do a more invasive procedure I am already not looking forward to. So I've got to drink lots of water, and a high calcium diet is also good to help prevent the formation of new stones, so hopefully I won't have any more in either kidney.

And I still haven't had another gallbladder attack (knock on wood). I saw my primary care physician for my annual and he said if I have another one to let him know and he will refer me to a specialist for that. But I don't want another one. I'm eating better. I've lost 15 lbs in under two months. I got the call today from my PCP's lab, and they said my lab results were all normal. I think that blood work tests for cholesterol, diabetes risk, etc.

Hopefully I am done with doctors for the year!

I had another CT scan and my half-year checkup for my aneurysm with the cardiologist. It hasn't changed since October, being the same size and with the same shell of calcium encasing it. He said the key to maintaining it is keep my blood pressure under control, which I do already take medication for and maintain it well (yesterday my blood pressure was 117/82). But to be on the safe side, he prescribed me to also take one baby aspirin per day for the rest of my life.

He said that if the aneurysm ever does burst, it is going to be extreme pain and I'll know to go to the emergency room. But now he is good with giving it a couple years before the next check-up on it.

This year they found I have a bigger kidney stone than seen last time, but it is possible that last year was bigger than thought this is a left-over fragment from last year (that may have grown), meaning that they may not have got it all lat time. If they could know for sure that last year's shock wave lithotripsy was successful and this is 100% new, then they would just do the same thing again because it had worked the first time.

Since they can't be sure, I now have to get the more invasive surgery where they go inside me with a camera and tool that the urologist sees the stone and breaks it up. If we ignore it then it could just suddenly become a painful emergency surgery at any time. I told him I work in the health insurance industry so January is very busy and out of the question for this.

They are trying to fast-track me into surgery and get the hospital to allow him to add a surgery to his last surgery day of this year, which is this coming Wednesday. I guess they will call me on Tuesday to let me know for sure. Recovery is going to be a little painful (this is how I'll spend Christmas), and I'll have to urinate more frequently and with more urgency for a couple weeks after the surgery. Getting old sucks.

I forgot to mention that due to more urgent cases and vacations, they weren't able to get me in to surgery until January 5th. So it was nice that I'm not in pain for Christmas and my time off at year's end, but it sucks that now I have to take a few days off work the first week in January (my company is not happy about that). I'll have to miss working overtime the first week, and I have to work for the rest of my recovery in pain.

I'm really sorry to hear that it got delayed. And I am also sorry that work is giving you difficulty over getting a necessary medical procedure.

Thanks. I had to file for FMLA. I'll probably have to miss 3-4 days that they want me to work. Hopefully that will get approved.

Can they deny FMLA??? Hopefully you got it all squared away. Prep for surgery is no fun, but I hope it all goes smoothly for ya, Whill!

The patient lived. This more invasive surgery was definitely worse than the shockwave procedure in I had in Nov '20. I'm dealing with some new issues in my recovery this time. Unfortunately, I have a naturally high resistance to drugs so the pain medications are not that effective, but today is slightly less pain than yesterday.

I'm now categorized as having "renal disease" but it is not yet chronic renal disease that could lead to kidney failure (I am in danger of that due to high blood pressure though). However the surgeon thinks the surgery was a complete success, so with any luck I will not develop a new kidney stone, or at least for a long time.
