As I may have said in previous posts, my Star Wars collecting (not counting stuff for my kids, or mementos from my own childhood) is now completely focused on the Kenner Micro Collection Hoth Ion Cannon (for reasons). I am trying really hard to stick to preproduction items (also for reasons).

I've been doing pretty good, finding some great items here and there. I decided I needed an actual production box, though I was a bit torn about this. Also, almost daily for months, I'd been scanning eBay for this rare Leia variant from the Ion Cannon, where she points with two fingers instead of four:

I found one, finally(!), in a loose complete set with beater box for under $200. I pounced! When it arrived I noticed it had a series of strange check marks on one box panel, one check even appearing UNDER the tape:

There was also a signature ("Said Osman") and a date (August 26, 1982, the summer Micro was released to stores) in pen.

Well, I did some asking around, and Said Osman was a Kenner employee in the quality assurance department. One of every toy was pulled off the production line, and saved for future reference. That's what I stumbled upon: Kenner's one, own, internal quality control sample of my only vintage toy I collect. The cabinet is coming together! More and more items on the top two shelves will be swapped out for Ion Cannon stuff over time.
