The second latest MCU film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, came to Disney+ tonight. It and several other MCU movies had IMAX-format versions dropped on Disney+ today, which means a fuller image with smaller black bars on the screen. Shang-Chi takes place some time after Endgame, but it has not yet been established if it takes place before or after Spider-Man: Far From Home.

My family watched Shang-Chi tonight. My first reaction is that it is decent. Some of the action scenes are really entertaining. The plot is pretty formulaic (the winning MCU formula). That is usually overwhelmed by nostalgia, but in this case I have no childhood connection to the characters so the formula was more noticeable. At this point I would rate Shang-Chi in the bottom half of MCU films (but it is definitely better than GotG2). Maybe I will like Shang-Chi more the second time I watch it.

The latest MCU film, Eternals, is in the theaters now but my family has no interest in going to the theater for that so we will wait for that to come to Disney+. I doubt Eternals will have any connection to Spider-Man: No Way Home next month.

I've returned to the theater for two movies since TRoS. Both movies were in the very top back row, so no one was behind or above me.

I saw the last James Bond film, No Time To Die by myself. It was very good, the best Bond film since Casino Royale. It ties all the Daniel Craig films together, and it's a good way to close out the current series.

My son, wife, and I saw Spider-Man: No Way Home. It was also a pretty good movie. It had a few editing/continuity issues but otherwise it was well done. It very creatively tied into the first five Spider-Man films.

The Eternals comes to Disney+ on January 12th. After we see that, we will be caught up on the MCU again.

We'll eventually see Shang Chi and the Eternals, but we're in no rush. It might be a few months...years....

We saw Spiderman: No Way Home at the theater last week. We REALLY enjoyed it. Nostalgic, funny, and very sad. Maybe it won't hold up on multiple viewings, but for a 1st time viewing, it blew my socks off.

I have seen No Way Home twice in the theater and I really enjoyed it both times. There is a very good blend of action, excitement, story line, and emotion in the movie. It is an all around great movie and I would recommend it to anybody who hasn't seen it.

Eternals was a snoozer. It features 10 newly-introduced, unageing characters with superpowers fighting a lot of monsters. It has no connection to any other MCU movies; it only name dropped Avengers. I have no personal connection to the comic book premise of the characters so there isn't even a nostalgia factor like with the most of the other MCU films. I may have liked Eternals more than Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but not by much.

Shang Chi had some cool fight scenes and dragons–It was definitely better. Eternals feels like a recent years X-Men production Marvel Studios developed only because they didn't have the rights to X-Men at the time it was green lit. It even has a character so blatantly ripped off of Superman that they joke about that in the film. Eternals is bottom of the barrel for MCU.

I never posted about the Disney+ series Hawkeye. Humor and some really cool action. I remember thinking one episode was kinda meh, but the rest were pretty good.

I had already seen the first and recently watched the second Venom movie. I guess it was ok, but they aren't really my thing.

Last night, they dropped a trailer for the D+ series Moon Knight, staring Oscar Issac. This is a character I liked when I was a kid. Back then he got powers from Egyptian deities, and he was a hero with some serious mental issues. Looks like they may be drawing from the source material. Moon Knight is coming 3/30.

[You may need to go to your browser's Settings and clear your Cache to see the updated version of the below image.]

I've finally got a grip on the post-Endgame chronology, including the Disney+ mini-series. Here is the full proper MCU viewing order:
    ...
    Avengers: Endgame
    Loki
    What If...?
    WandaVision
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
    Eternals
    Spider-Man: Far From Home
    Spider-Man: No Way Home

    Hawkeye
As I said earlier in the thread, you could skip the first three episodes of WandaVision and not miss anything. The episodes of What If...? seem unrelated until the end of the series that brings it all together. It appears that What If...? is going to be directly relevant to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the next MCU film to come out (in theaters May 4th).

See this post for timeline placement of everything above and more commentary.

And as Marvel fully embraces the multiverse concept, I'll add that Sony's first five Spider-Man movies and its two Venom movies are actually relevant to Spider-Man: No Way Home. And Netflix Marvel is actually relevant to both Spider-Man: No Way Home and Hawkeye.

We finished Moon Knight last night. Oscar Isaac was great. He really pulled off playing a character with multiple personalities (which are in essence multiple characters). The show had some really cool concepts. Egyptian deities aren't like the Norse gods such as Thor. They are spiritual beings who take normal humans as avatars (which makes them superhuman). The show had some really cool action sequences, but unfortunately they were few and far between. In the end, my whole family was really disappointed with Moon Knight. IMO none of the MCU Disney+ shows have rivaled the good MCU movies, but Moon Knight is about at the bottom of the shows. I can't really say if it was better or worse than WandaVision, but I will say that WandaVision started very slow and slowly got better as it went along. Moon Knight probably got slightly better with the last two episodes being the best ones, but overall it was kinda boring. They Disney+ shows are definitely more experimental than the movies, but it seems they really just wanted to get weird with this one when I would have preferred them to make it more like the films but with the twist of the multiple personalities and the Egyptian gods. I have no idea where Moon Knight takes place on the MCU chronology in the previous post. It seems wholly unrelated to any other MCU movies or shows, but maybe there will be a Season 2 that will be better.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness premiered tonight. My family will see it on Monday. To prepare for this, in the last few weeks I've rewatched the original Doctor Strange film, the last two episodes of Loki, the whole What If? series, and the last episode of WandaVision. This weekend, we will rewatch Spider-Man: No Way Home. Multiverse of Madness definitely takes place after No Way Home, and probably also after Hawkeye. Next week I'll report in here with non-spoiler reaction to the new movie.

In episode 2 during a fight scene, there's a banner for the GRC - Global Repatriation Council - on a bus. The GRC was that big government group that appeared at the end of Falcon & Winter Soldier.

Nice detail. So far, the Global Repatriation Council explicitly exists at least as recent as TFatWS, but likely exists after it as well. So this narrows it down to 2023-2025, the span of the entire post-Endgame timeline so far. I thought it was a given this show was post-Endgame, but I guess I should have said, I have no idea when this show takes place other than it being post-Endgame.

I have grown to hate it when creators and franchises are vague about story timeline placement, and we can thank Disney's handling of Star Wars canon for that. But both Star Wars and Marvel usually pin things down eventually. I read today that there were supposed to be several MCU cameos in the first and final episodes of Moon Knight, but the director decided against them because he felt Moon Knight was totally standalone and didn't need to be tied in with anything else. Being disappointed with Moon Knight, I doubt tie-ins would have helped it much but they probably wouldn't have hurt it either.

Did you like Moon Knight? I'd like to see some other opinions here.

I have to say, I liked Moon Knight alot for a couple of reasons. 1) I can't remember another superhero show (at least off the top of my head) where the hero is so directly suffering from such an in-your-face example of mental illness, especially something like Multiple Personality Disorder. (I haven't watched Deadpool yet. Razz) As someone who has undergone therapy during my teenage years for depression, I can relate to a hero with mental issues. 2) Steven Grant in the beginning of the show is someone I can also relate to: a regular joe working an unfulfilling job wondering where he really belongs. Not being able to get a good night's sleep on a regular basis is also something that is not unfamiliar to me.

According to TV Tropes, WandaVision, Loki (Season 1), SpiderMan: No Way Home and Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness form a tetrology that occurs in that chronological order. As I understand it, Moon Knight is supposed to occur chronologically after Dr. Strange 2. Don't quote me on that though.

I too suffer from (usually treated) insomnia. Talk to your doctor.

I'm no Deadpool expert. I have no Deadpool comics and have only seen both movies once each. (They were ok). I do not have the impression that Deadpool has dissociative identity disorder. He seems to be more attention deficit hyperactive disorder and manic-depressive disorder. But I could be misremembering.

As I stated above, I felt Oscar Issacs was very good in the role(s). I had no issues with that aspect of Moon Knight. I liked that. I just feel that the overall story built around that wasn't as compelling as I wished it would be.

Ever see Split and Glass, the sequels to Unbreakable? Good movies, and I highly recommend them that if you are interested in characters with multiple personalities. James McAvoy's character has 24 personalities, and we see a handful of them in the first sequel and almost all of them in the second. He's fantastic.

Personally, I am fascinated with dissociative identity disorder. I have a concept for a playable Star Wars species for which it is the norm to have multiple identities (so not a disorder). For players up to the challenge of roleplaying multiple characters rolled into one.

Well Loki takes place in various times and outside the timeline, but according to my research, the best narrative order places Loki immediately after Endgame since the title character is the version of Loki from the altered 2012 who escapes wit the Tesseract. And the end of Loki creates the current marvel cinematic multiverse. WandaVision takes place a very short time after the end of Endgame. So I disagree with TV Tropes for those two. And I'm pretty sure that What If? is relevant to the new Doctor Strange, and What If? is immediately after Loki since it results from it. See my order in the thread above.

We are watching No Way Home tonight and seeing the new Doctor Strange movie on Monday night. As far as Moon Knight being after that, that could be the case. I doubt even the new Doctor Strange movie will make that explicit.

On the issue of DID (dissociative identity disorder), my son has a superhero character that explores this concept.

He's got two different identities, one very upstanding and heroic (who takes meticulous notes for his 'partner'), and the other is more a complete @$$ (still a hero, but he doesn't mind leaving the other one in the dark about what happened under his watch). Every time the PC takes damage, he rolls to see if he "switches" between the two.

He served as GM once and actually introduced a third (villain) identity, but that was more of a one-time thing, I believe, and mainly he just switches between the two personas.
