I got my stent out today and things are definitely feeling better. Hopefully I'll feel back to normal within the next couple days.

Thanks, Ray. On surgery day last week, I had six new temporary medications to take. One of them I never took. One I stopped taking Sunday. The rest slowed down through yesterday. Today is the first day without any of them. I feel almost back to normal now.

They finally approved my FMLA for the four days of work I missed. If they didn't then my company would make me use my sick time which means I wouldn't have it if I needed it for something completely unrelated that may still come up.

I feel normal but the full spectrum of my normal health remains untested. My friendly advice is, don't get kidney stones. It sucks.

My mom has had displaced discs that got bad enough to require surgeries in recent years. She started losing feeling in extremities and her back was getting so out of alignment that she was told she would definitely lose her ability to walk without surgeries. She first got a more minor neck surgery that didn't improve much, and then got had a major operation lower in her back when they permanently installed metal rails and screws. We took turns taking care of her during her long recovery. Her pain and numbness are better now.

They tell her there is still no guarantee she won't lose her ability to walk some day, but so far she still can but only with a lean to one side. She cannot even stand up completely straight anymore. The doctor gave her a picture of a post-operation x-ray of her back. It's nuts. I call my mom a cyborg but she doesn't think its that funny.

Her ability to walk unfortunately deteriorated since then, and now has more metal inside her.

This week my mom fell down a few steps and broke her ankle in three places. She had surgery today and they kept her in the hospital for observation. We are not sure if she is even getting out tomorrow or not.

With her back issues, she couldn't walk too well before, and now with metal pins in her ankle I do not know if she will recover enough to walk again. But for the next few weeks the main issue will be dealing with the pain and discomfort of having to lay down and keep her ankle above her heart so she doesn't develop blood clots.
Sad

The Rancor Pit is on the road.

Mom is slowly healing. My step-dad can't really care for her himself. I took my brother to stay with them for awhile, and then my step-sister came up and stayed with them for awhile. We are trying to get mom into a LTC facility while she recovers but we haven't gotten the insurance to approve it, so I am now staying with them (one county over from where I live).

It finally got approved and we got mom into the rehab center, so I am back home, only missing two nights of sleep and one day of work. I'm so very tired.

Mom had her follow-up today. She got new x-rays today showing the metal rod going her her knee to her ankle. She got her surgery stitches and cast removed today, so she has a new wrap thing on her leg. She is no where close to putting any weight on that leg or balancing. It is going to be a long road to recovery, and there will likely never be a full recovery.

You're a champion for helping her. Kudos to you for taking care of her and sacrificing stuff like sleep to do so.

Thanks for keeping us updated. She'll be in my prayers.

My son and I visited Mom on Saturday, and I spent a few hours with her tonight after work. She has physical therapy every day and she is getting better. After she heals, it is likely she will still need at least a cane but possibly even a walker to get around, but she's a lot more open to that after this ordeal. My family will stop by and see her on Mother's Day.

Thank you. We did all go visit her on Mothers Day. My son and I visited mom again on Friday, and now she is back home. She is getting around with a boot, her walker, and some assistance here and there.

I thought I remembered you mentioning that back then somewhere.

I had a culture of the bacteria that causes ulcers living in my stomach for the entire PT years. My stomach was always irritated. It was painful after eating sometimes but also painful just being hungry. I had to take Nexium which helped the symptoms only. The only reason I had it that long was because it was misdiagnosed by a bad doctor I had back then. As soon as I switched doctors, we found the true problem, she gave me a regimen of antibiotics for two weeks, the bacteria was destroyed, and my stomach started to heal. Thankfully, it never came back.

I never had an ulcer burst so I never had it as bad as your mom does. But I can imagine what she is going through.
