I'm not a big fan of dice caps myself, but I don't have the 2nd edition book either. Ifyou guys won't mind posting the rules, I'd like to look at them again! thanx

Vartax take a look at the Size over Scale thread in this same forum. In there I talk about the Die Cap system, and there's even a chart conveniently posted by someone kind.

I use Escort and Battleship scales in my non-StarWars games, mostly because the technology requires it. Most "fighters" are the size of the Millenium Falcon, and have the weaponry and armor to match.

Now, in a Star Wars setting, there's not much reason to use the new classifications, as most escort-sized ships are going to fit in one category or the other (with a few exceptions, that can be houseruled easily)

I try and ignore the solid clasification of scale, and just use them as benchmarks.

Wasn't this whole Space Transport Scale issue already covered at length in a topic of almost identical title and content once before? Or was I just using my farseeing again? I hope not, because I recall typing a number of responses...

And you're doing just fine, Boomer. Like I said, you're just more into the "Aggressive Negotiations" side of diplomacy... Wink

I tried out the so called "Space transport" scale in our game and while it does carry some merrit, the hull rating and damage of currently existing space transports has to be significantly decreased (by at least 2-3 dice), to still make them vulnerable to Starfighter-scale energy weapon attacks.

Either this or introduce a rule that space transport scale weapons and hulls do not produce bonus dice when battling starfighter-scale. Otherwise this would unproportionally favor Space Transports over starfighters. The Mobquet for instance would be almost completely immune to everything a TIE-fighter could dish out while even a rugged starfighter like a Y-Wing would likely not stand more than a single hit from one of its weapons.

Here is the Other thread on this same topic:
http://www.rancorpit.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=319

I said it before, I'll say it again. There is no need for a Space Transport scale! No matter what argument is used. These ships are not much bigger than fighters, and nor should they be inherently better at soaking damage than a fighter. Why? Why are their hulls so low compared to an X-Wing? Here's why, Because they are NOT DESIGNED FOR COMBAT! Unless you armor them up and modify them, you are talking about the equivalent of comparing a corporate leer jet or piper cub to an A-10 warthog, F-14 Tomcat, or even an older F-4U Corsair! 'Nough Said!

Want more comparisons, Ok:
Yacht compare to a Corvette...How many rounds from the deck mounted .50 Cal. of the corvette do you think the yacht can take?

Space transports aren't so much like current day cargo ships or tankers, as those would be closer to the Action-VI which is a capital scale ship.
Ok?
Do we all understand?

I understand that some people can't fathom the idea that there are instances where a mid range scale could be useful.

I can also understand that no amount of yelling from those people is going to change other people's minds about it, nor is any amount of reasoning from other people going to change the minds of the vehement objectors to the mid range scale.

So rather than getting all up in arms about something, and coming across as a rather rude person offering no helpful advice to someone looking for a reasoning for such scale, it might behoove some people to simply take a deep breath and calm down.

Mind you, I'm not saying that every space transport ship should suddenly be at a higher scale. What I'm saying is that a mid range scale could be useful for SOME ships out there. Heck, it could even be useful for newly designed ships created by either GMs or players for their games! Or, it could even be useful for *gasp* non-Star Wars D6 space based games.

So let's lighten up a bit.

But this forum is for Star Wars... you want to talk about another system, bring that up elsewhere.

I think you missed the first two reasons why it could be discussed here.

So even in the realm of Star Wars, this could be used. Let's try to keep in mind that not everyone runs their game exactly like everyone else, and that some people like variety.

Well if you mean for brand new, custom ships, that is very diffrent from adding a new scale for every single space transport.
The discussion is on changing the Star Wars system to make every space transport fit a brand new scale.
As for custom ships... oh I have a point to counter yours, but that is off topic to this thread and really should be brought up elsewhere. New thread time, I'll let you kick it of Grimace, you have the opening strong case here.
