In one adventure the Game Master allowed Rexer and Calvin to stumble across two cases of thermal detenoators. There were 50 in each case. These two players packed both cases away in their ship for save keeping. In another adventure in Mos Eisley, our two bounty hunters (who have little to no morals by the way) ended up with a gang after them. The gang was standing in the way of their bounty. The gang kept telling them that they owned this town. After Rexer and Calvin destroyed the gangs hideout they began chasing the remnants of the gang down in their ship. As they were chasing the fleeing gang members they decided to open up those two cases of thermal detonators. As Calvin flew the ship Rexer chucked out approximatley 75 thermal detonators damaging a good portion of the city.

We were both shocked yet pleased that a Game Master would actually give the two of us cases of thermals, allow us to keep them, and then allow us to use them. Twisted Evil

Yes, that is very true... We once played with a guy who played a mad bomber character. Now that will make an adventure interesting! Laughing

Wow, how many dark side points did these characters receive?

The characters weren't force-sensitive and didn't use a force point to do any of these acts, so (unfortunately Very Happy ) they didn't get any dark side points.

I was under the impression that even non-force sensitive characters can get darkside points for unnessecary evil acts... like tarkin got a darkside point for saying "You may fire when ready..."

seriously Evil or Very Mad

Our group always played that the only way for non-force-sensitive characters to get a dark side point was to:
1) use a force point to do something evil
2) call upon the dark side

I just quickly skimmed the rules again and they're a little vague about non-force-sensitive characters and dark side points. I could see it going either way based on the rules in the book. How does everyone else play it?

I like the idea of non-force-sensitive characters getting dark side points for unnecessarily evil acts though, that would have curbed some of the actions described earlier in this post... Very Happy

I think I see the problem.

I have always given characters dark side points for unabashed evil. Murder is a crime against the force. Common sense tells me non-sensitive characters can be bad guys too. Jedi can get them easily, but others are not immune. From a director's point of view; it is a simple game mechanic for removing evil characters to NPC status where they belong. Once or twice I have sic'd dark side ex-player characters on the group. After losing their own to their own the group policed itself.

The one time we had a non-sensitive character get a dark side point, two things happened: that player rethought how she was going to play the game (making it nicer for everyone else), and I informed the group that I also give dark side points for the evil of rules-lawyering.

Problem solved.

Next time I GM (if I ever do) I probably will still be as loose on the rules as I always have been - as long as we can make a good "STAR WARS" type story.

Smile As well you should. Every group has a different thing that they want from an RPG. Some want a realistic game, while others want space opera. A structured game or a wide open playing style are both fun. It depends on what the players in that group prefer. As long as your players are having fun, go for it!

I just ran across a very interesting paragraph on page 6 of Galladinium's Fantastic Technology. They're talking about cybernetics and how it gives your character extra dark side points...
Quote:
Note that these rules will not have much of an effect on non-Force-sensitive characters, since they only receive Dark Side Points when they commit evil and use a Force Point.

I guess this pretty much settles what the official rules say (at least 2nd edition rules)...

DSP and non-force sensitive characters came up with my group awhile ago. We decided that for the sake of becoming force sensitive half way through a character's adventure we'd keep track of DSP. However, we eventually decided you're either force sensitive or not in the beginning, so the only time to worry about DSP was when a non-force user used a force point for evil.
