In my few adventures I have never used sound effects.

So where do you get all them sound FX from?

And to add another question to this, do you use a specific program or do you have the files (sound files) labeled well so you can just find them and click on them?

I have found several files over the years from official STAR WARS sources and licensed games (such as the "Dark Forces" / "Jedi Knight" series). Perhaps as a community we should work on getting some of these together in a "Rancor Pit Community Sound Pack". Very Happy What do you think, Loc?

Sounds good to me, Scraw! Can you send me the files you've collected?

I've got a fair classical music collection, and that actually comes in handy sometimes. I'm about ready to burn a disk with music combined from the Trilogy as well as Shadows of the Empire, and even Carmina Bruana by Carl Orf. O Fortuna from Carmina Bruana is a great piece for a lightsaber fight. You might recognize it from the Capital One credit card commercial where the Vikings are storming the department store. It was also used in the movie Excallibur. Wagner also has some great mood music.

I've always wanted to branch out into sound effects, but I don't have a laptop to play them. But if anyone is making a CD, I'd probably buy one.

Hey, that Rancor Pit Community Sound Pack sounds good; I'll help for sure. Are you looking for effects or musics?

What I was thinking was making a sound board for just sound clips. Music needs to be done right, and just using shortened excerpts would lose their effectiveness I think if not done correctly. The sound board would be setup so you click a button and it plays the short sound clip (ie. blaster shot, lightsaber turning on/off, lightsaber hum, etc.).

Any way, I have to follow up with some sources regarding how to create the actual sound board. I do have access to a few high quality SFX (mostly from STAR WARS game files via extracting them... oops! Did I say that outloud?).

If any of you have some good quality SFX, please let me know and perhaps we can all add from our collections for this first ever, "Rancor Pit Community Sound Pack". Very Happy

P.S. I have some small clips blended together of various STAR WARS SFX (I had done these several years ago). This will demonstrate the quality of the clips I have. I was thinking of using the same SFX for the sound board, along with others that I have collected. And now that the STAR WARS movies are on DVD (yay!), we can get even more excellent sound clips if we desire.

I have a awful lot of SFX and sentences from the various characters. Plus a few musics from the video games.

Even on the risk on going off-topic, I must bring this sad story to the knowledge of the Rancorpit Forums.

The money-grubbing machinations of Lucasfilm (and its subsidiaries thereunto) have sunk their claws into yet another honest fan of Star Wars-music...

Lookit this link... and weep! And be angry... VERY ANGRY! Mad

P.S
Scrawprin, man, those sound-clips rocked!! Smile I laughed so hard, I nearly fell off my chair!! Smile
Superb work!
Keep 'em coming!
"I wish he wouldn't shoot paying customers!" (<-Jedi Knight)

P.P.S
I have mostly music, some small snippets of dialogue.
I have sounds from various games (jungle-sounds from Farcry and weapon sounds from KOTOR), but I'm not sure in what format they are, since they use the Miles Sound System.
I also manage to rescue the KOTOR-soundtrack from the link above.

If you have the KotR game for PC and know where to look, then you really don't need to worry about having to download it.
