Unfortunately we only get to see one stun shot in bolt in Star Wars. If we had seen more, we could perhaps get a better concept of how to make mechanics for them.

Of course, where would all the drama be if the stormies only stunned people?

Chesire, you transliterate all those D20 to D6 stats for the rest of us. It's good that you know this stuff. If we notice any irrational behavior associated with crack use or (shivers) playing D20 games, we'll intervene.

2D6 minutes isn't alot of time. Additionally, attempting physical harm on a person would probably wake them up. Pain causes a bit more of a response from your neurons then moving someone's arms around and handcuffing them.

Next time i get to run a home game i am going to try using a house rule that stun setting on blasters has only 1/3 the range.
I will see how this runs, and if it is not working out i will go back to the regular way.

It seems that WEG already kinda had this idea of reduced range for stun blasts. If you look at most stun-only blasters, they have considerably shorter ranges.

That's why lightsabers are so awesome... they cannot be set to stun.

However, I had a game where it was necessary for a group of wanna-be Jedi were being duped by a fraud. He told people that he would accept candidates at his praxeum, and if they earned the right, then they could be trained with a stun-saber. Only after "enough training" would they be given a real one.

Essentially the stun saber was a miniaturization of a sort of shield generator technology that had minor stunning properties.

From the Weapon Stats posting by Tiago S. Aranha

Training Lightsaber
Damage: 5D
Can block blaster bolts but not deflect at targets.
Less lethal than a standard lightsaber, and can only inflict a maximum damage result of “Wounded” to any target struck.
Can not focus their power strongly enough to cut through objects. When used against inanimate objects, the damage of a training lightsaber is reduced to 2D.

Thanks all. I talked to my GM. He renounced the crack.

We like the 1/2 range for stun rule though. We are fairly certain that West End never intended stun stetting to be the "easy" button.

Not much help if you wake up to a cut throat though. Twisted Evil

Our group has never been very happy with the Stun rules. Since you hardly ever see anyone use Stun in the movies, it seems there should be some disadvantage with Stun. I like the shortened range idea. We have also considered decreasing the damage done, so it isn’t so easy to take someone down with Stun vs. wounding them.

I guess we should just be happy that in the Cantina scene Lucas did re-edit so that Han stuns Greedo. Laughing

On a related question, can you over stun someone, in other words, is it hazardous to multiply stun a character? Is there a chance you might accidentally injure them or maybe trigger a brain aneurism or heart failure and kill the victim. I seem to recall in some non Star Wars Sci-Fi a stunner fired up against someone’s head can cause brain damage or death, e.g. Bujold’s Barrayar series.

In the sparks group, there is a rule that no matter how much stun you push into someone there is no damage. BUT with me, if you stun someone with 50 over a KO level, or repeatedly pump stun shots into their back at close range, you WILL cause permanent nerve damage..
