Well, any rules that apply to cyber-brains, applies to them, obviously. I don't think such things should clutter the species stat block.

I don't like the 3:1 Kno/Tec skill thing, it's WAY too easy to abuse; 2:1 isn't as bad, and still quite powerful.

I tried to do something between the Verpine's +2D to all Tech skills (too powerful and restricted) and the Sluissi's extra 4D for Tech skills (too weak).

What I liked about the 3:1 system is that you have to spend you normal skill dice to get the bonus. The more you spend, the greater the bonus. Yakas are supposed to be as good Technically as Verpine, and you don't quite get that with a 2:1 system, I think.

True, but I also think the Verpine bonus goes slightly overboard too Wink

True, they would be truly awesome in those areas, but of little use anywhere else. However I can see how this can still be abusive. Can I have a show of hands, who thinks it would work better as a 2:1 system?

And here's a somewhat related species:

Gank

Home Planet: Unknown
Attribute Dice: 12D
DEXTERITY 2D/4D+1
KNOWLEDGE 1D+2/3D+1
MECHANICAL 2D/3D+2
PERCEPTION 2D/4D
STRENGTH 2D/4D+1
TECHNICAL 2D/4D
Special Abilities:

Communications Implant: All Ganks have a cybernetic implant that allows them to communicate silently with each other.
Story Factors:
Hidden Visage: Few know what a Gank actually looks like, as they always wear full armor in public.
Pack Hunters: Ganks are rarely seen alone, usually working in packs, with the aid of their implanted communications system.
Move: 10/12
Size: 1.6 meters tall on average

If you think of a person using 2D to allocate into a maxed out attribute (5D), that would be an additional 6D, giving a starting character 11D in single skill. Add to that a specialization, that makes 12D for a starting character for only 2D+1 skill dice. Even if it's limited to 1D allocation to a skill, that's still 8D/(S)9D for a starting character... crazy.

EDIT: the Gank I like.

You can just run it so the 2D bonus only applies to skills the verpine actually has. That's an acceptible if somewhat narrow interpretation of the wording.

Here is one i just built, seems overpowered

DEXTERITY 3D
-Dodge 4D (so he doesnt die too easy)
KNOWLEDGE 4D
-Intimidation 10D
MECHANICAL 2D
PERCEPTION 1D
STRENGTH 3D
TECHNICAL 5D
-demolitions 11D
-STRep(falcon) 12D
-Security 11D

and its not a bad character either Razz

Think 2:1 is the best way to go, and it easily matches the verpine:
DEXTERITY 3D
-Dodge 4D
KNOWLEDGE 4D
-Intimidation 8D
MECHANICAL 2D
PERCEPTION 1D
STRENGTH 3D
TECHNICAL 5D
-demolitions 9D
-STRep(falcon) 11D (effectivly 10D)
-Security 9D (effectively 9D)

Verpine

DEXTERITY 3D
KNOWLEDGE 3D
-Intimidation 5D
MECHANICAL 2D
PERCEPTION 2D
STRENGTH 3D
TECHNICAL 5D
-demolitions 7D (effectively 9D)
-STRep(falcon) 8D (effectivly 10D)
-Security 7D (effectively 9D)

Alright then, I'm convinced. 2:1. But not 2D for each 1D spent, simply double what you spend, so spending +2 gets you 1D+1.

on the YAKA
I would have though a bit more on perception and Dex as tehy are basically what I would see on evolutioniary scale hunters (well ebfore the cyber brain was put in. SO they would need a semi ok DEX to be able to hunt and a perception of between 3D / 4D for setting ambushes and perceivign things in the environment.

But having said that I that I think it is an awesome set-up and I think 2:1 should be good Smile

The Gank looks good too Smile

Once again thanx Gry

Those are the stats for the cyberized species. They must have lost something when they gained those new brains.

DEX - They seem like the brutish type to me. Strong but not that nimble. 3D is not too shabby for their best hunter, considering they now rely so much more on their minds.

PER - This is something I think that would have suffered with their cyberization. I assigned a very low number because I think that the cyberization would have harmed both aspects of PER (perceptiveness and social skills). The text states that their augmented minds "whirl with accelerated thoughts" in "chaos". This would make it hard for them to perceive details in their environment. Then their awkward sense of humor would make them socially inept. Hence the low Perception.
