In the The Force Unleashed game you can have two types of 'locks', Lightsaber locks and Force Locks.
A Lightsaber lock comes from the movies when the combatants pushes at eachother with their lightsabers crossed. In game terms I assume it happens when the attacker nearly overwhelms the defenders defences. I havent looked into this yet, but I suppose its a Str opposed roll, loser gets pushed back or even drops to the ground.
The Force Lock is what you describe above, when two force powers are activated at the same time. I assume in game terms that they roll about the same on their Alter rolls so the powers 'cancel' each other out so to speak. The first to drop the power will let the opponents attack get through. In game terms the force powers would be 'kept up' (even though they cant really be kept up) and the next round the opponents reroll their Alter skill rolls to see who wins or wether they keep locked in the force struggle.. |

That sounds like a good way to mirror the way it works in the film, and if neither keep it up then they both get affected by the others power (to simulate both Obi and Ani flying in opposite directions.)? |

Here are my ideas so far....
If someone can look into rewriting especially force backlash for a clearer description please do.
FORCE LOCK
1. When two force users use the same force power simultaneously (same round) targeting each other, a force lock may occur.
2. If the two force users roll within 5 of each other when rolling to activate their Force Powers the result
is a force lock and neither power affects the users. If no user yields, dropping their power and submitting to
the effects of the other force users power, the two combatants are locked in a stalemate and may take no further
actions for the rest of the round.
Each round the opponents roll the force skill in question (Alter in most cases).
3. The stalemate will continue (keeping opponents from taking any other actions) until one of the following occurs.
a) One force user gives in and drops his power. He will then be affected by his opponents power.
b) Both force users drop their powers simultaneously (same round is enough). Nothing happens.
c) One combatant overpower the other by rolling 5 or more than his opponent in the force skill in question.
d) A Force Backlash happens. Each round the Force Lock is in place the powers are focused between the opponent almost like in a compressed bubble, which finally bursts. Each round add together the number of dice each force user uses, which represents the 'force bubble' between them. For example, if one Jedi has Alter 5D and the other 6D, this generates 11 to the force bubble each round. This number is accumulated from round to round. If either force user ever rolls lower than the accumulated force bubble when they roll each round for their power, they lose control of the accumulated force power and suffer the effect of the opponents power. In
addition, divide the 'force bubble' dice by 5 and add that to the Force Skill roll for effect (Alter as damage in Force Lightning for example). A force backlash can affect both players if both fail to reach the 'force bubble' target number in the same round. |
