Actually you posted in the thread however now that I find it I see that the grenade part was just an asside from a fairly enjoyable discussion about familiarity penalties where the original poster and I ended up agreeing to disagree so it'd be easy enough not to recognize it from my reference.
Here is the page in question: http://www.rancorpit.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2927&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=45
Atgxtg was the one who advanced the idea initially.

Just lowering their chance to throw via MAPs doesn't cover that since the grenade miss table doesn't really address holding too long, only where the grenade goes if it misses. We need a way of including some chance of thrower goes BOOM! |
Indeed it didn't really cover that so I'd add in a houserule that if you roll less than say five (number chosen at random) then the grenade ends up at your feet. You still have a chance to puck it up again and throw it or dodge but now those MAPs are hampering you. _________________ Don't waste money on expensive binoculars.

I don't see a reason to change the rule. I try to avoid house rules whenever possible.
...always figured the thermal detonator was just too heavy to throw far. It is called a detonator and not a grenade because it's intended to be placed as an explosive, not thrown. If a PC wants to throw one, throw according to the ranges: short=10, medium=15, long=20, but the PC had better have good cover to hide behind when it goes off.
If your players need to engage a target beyond the printed range of the thermal detonator, use a grenade. Otherwise, what does the short range of the thermal detonator mean? _________________ Know Jesus, Know Peace.
