Dodge lessening??

If the area you have do make a dodge into, is shrinking, should you not get some sort of penalty?

EG if i have a ship using 'constant beam' mode for its tractor beams, thereby reducing their 'grip' power but allowing me to put a 'net' up with your ship in between the beams, should that not penalize your dodge attempts when i next try to shoot you?

One of the express purposes of using tractor beams is to prevent a ship from dodging.
But in the case mentioned above, the ship can still dodge as normal.

But what i am wondering, is with the lessening of space to 'dodge into' would that put a penalty on the dodge roll/add to the to hit roll??

For me, you have to state that is what you are trying to do, since setting up tractor beams in all directions to block an escape route requires the same skill as trying to hit the target directly.

For me, the ship trying to put up this anti-dodge net basically has to make "to hit" roll to "hit" the areas around the target to box it in. Leaving so much as a single opening that you yourself have not covered with other weapons therefore negates this.
Target difficulty is the same as firing upon the ship with all tractor beams, using combined weapon bonus to hit.
If succesful, you have set up the dodge net, and set a new dodge difficulty based upon how high you beat the target in setting up this net.
In essence, getting 5 over the target to hit would give you a +5 to hit them when you attacked.

You can also make an opposed tactics roll against the target to try and predict it's movements. The score you beat them by can be added to your anti-dodge net bonus, so beating them by another 5 on this tactics roll would get you yet another 5 to hit them when you finally attacked.

Than finally, the attack. The attacking ship gets a +10, to hit. The target ship must both dodge the tractor beam net and the laser fire. If he gets over all of that, the target still dodged.
If he at least gets over the full attack, but is within that +10 bonus, than he took a covered route and was hit.
If the target get's below the net's bonus, than the target is caught in one of the tractor beams that made the net, AND is hit by the attacker.
Which means not only did the net work, but now the target has to contend with being in a tractor beam.

Sounds like i might need to go to the drawing board, and make a new ship up for the imps, dedicated to freighter/fighter capture... say 24 tractor beams (real low in power, say 7d fighter scale damage/hold) and lots of ion cannons...

Garkhal, you just described a very good pirate ship. Very Happy

It's actually much easier to just hit a ship with the few tractor beams you already have and deprive them of the majority of their dodge that way. Or use a specially designed capture net.
