Does anyone know where I can find information about how to play all the various saber styles?

EDIT - Woo! Just realised I'm a line captain now!

That was covered in the Hero's Guide, a d20 supplement. I bought the book planning on converting it. However, as printed, the rules don't lend themsleves too well to conversion.

However, someone has done an interesting D6 guide to lightsabers. It's an interesting book. Unfortunately, I have no idea where I got it. I'll upload it once I'm on a high speed connection, as it's a 25 page book.

According to the guys that wrote it, the styles were edited heavily before they were printed. Styles will also be covered in the new Saga edition but will be "lite" as far as the mechanics go.

I think that we need to all sit down and discuss how fighting styles and vehicle manuevers will affect the game mechanics. It isn't covered in the rules very well save the martial arts moves (from other books) and this has been a topic of some debate here recently.

Perhaps it would be best to go to some other source first. Are the fighting styles covered in any novel? Perhaps then we can make a decision on how to turn that into mechanics.

Somewhat. Although I've not read all the novels, I did read the novelization for EPI III and it did mention a number of styles, giving little tidbits about each. Mostly this was during Ani's and Obi's battle with Count Dooku.

Yup. That be the one.

I've seen several documents that detail the different styles, and several sites that have them listed by style, complete with difficulty modifiers for special moves in each style. Also lists requisite attribute levels and skills or Force power for each. But I believe Jam's is the most complete one I've seen to date...

This is very cool. I hope to use it in my own campaign soon. Thanks for the link.

I am working on an in depth lightsaber combat styles system. As it nears completion I will post outlines, but I did not feel the current Lightsaber manual/handbook did the styles the justice they deserve. As it stands right now I run them as specializations of LS Combat and they come with their positives and negatives the price of specializing versus no modifiers for basic lightsaber.

Yeah, I have issues with the system as well. I am, however, more inclined to make forms Advanced skills rather than Specializations... but that's me Wink

I was starting to work on a system a while back, but it fell to a back burner. Given that my gaming group has all but lost interest in roleplaying, I haven't had much drive to get back at it.

It's really hard to develop a system AND maintain the simplicity that is the hallmark, and, imo, most important feature of the Star Wars d6 system. It's easy to make a rule set that's complicated, but you lose a lot of what makes d6 d6.

Precisely why I am playing with the option of Spec right now, if I do not like it I will make it an advanced, my issue with advanced is it adds to your base lightsaber skill when it is used (ala rules for advanced skills) I see it more as a sacrifice, you work on this and because its so singular its a bit easier but you sacrifice your ability in the basic versatile style.

But then again, as you said, that's just me.

And that is precisely the problem I am having, the one you mentioned. I can make a great system, but it will start to sacrifice game simplicity. I am trying to use the martial arts style as a base, but its taking time and patience and alot of balance testing in mock combats.

We've adopted our own house rules for the different lightsaber forms, based on the Dueling Blades system, plus some modification. We've play tested it, and it works great!

Here is is: http://berencamlost.googlepages.com/House_Lightsaber_Duel_Rules.pdf
