As I said, these were from a particular movie reference, and it was done as a joke.

Not actually killed anyone, but once had a spectacular suicide.

A young jedi captured by Vader.
Vader tries to tempt the novice by teaching him all the dark powers he wants to know.

Without realising Vader taught him all the pre-requisites for Force Storm.

On the bridge of the Executor, Padawan initiates Force Storm, and in First Edition Rules you state the size, damage etc. and if you fail the difficulties it still comes but takes the 'summoner'.

Oops
20d Capital Damage
20 Km diameter

Padawan has skills 4-5D

Vader evacuates very quickly, Executor is FUBAR.

One dead PC, but what an exit.
Did my poor braincell in.
Had to check the rules, couldn't believe it.

Just cause he learned the prerequisits to force storm does not give him it... and iirc, first edition did not have rules for \spontaneous' force skill use, where one could use a power he does not normally know...

He had the pre-reqs. He than could have spent some extra time and points to learn it on his own.

True, first edition did not have rules for Spontaneous power use, but that was because it didn't really have rules for learning a set number of powers. The first edition take on the force was that you could do whatever you could imagine as long as the GM allowed it. It did list some comonly used abilities in a "power" format similar to second, but with no prerequisites or such, as an example of dificulties and what had been done in the movies. The Rules Companion touched on the concept of Powers and slots as they have come to be known in Second Edition and R&E, with it's rules for "Mastering Force Powers", but it also still allowed for free reign with force use.

But you have to agree that a 20d Capital Scale damage is a very destructive imagination.

Yes, and the difficulties I would attach to it would be eaqually high and almost impossible to reach. I do not agree with a lot of things from EU materials, and tend to disregard their references in the sourcebooks. I never liked the Force Storms from Dark Empire, nor the giant (starship scale) Arakyd Probot, or a number of other things. That's where the "GM Allowing it" comes into play.

I run most of the games in my group. I haven't played more than 30 games in the last 10 years myself. As a result, I have never died.

As far as killing players goes, only two things have ever done that. A players own stupidity, or the dice. The dice rolls I will sometimes cut them a break on if it's really bad. I don't enjoy killing characters as a rule.

Sometimes I'll have players who will kill each other. That's not a common occurance. But it does happen.

As a GM, I will only kill PCs under 2 conditions.

1. Player asks me to do it in order to exit the game.

2. Player keeps doing stupid crap and fails to listen to repeated warnings.

That said, in nearly 10 years of GMing, I've only killed 3 PCs. And only 1 because they were doing stupid crap.

Wow. I have done far more than that. I have always considered myself rather kind to the players. In the 12 years or so I have probably killed 20 or 30. Though we used to play 4 or 5 nights out of the week when I was 15 or 16 and I had a couple players that were constantly doing stupid things.

Really though, I haven't killed anyone in a very long time. Though I can sense that another one is coming up soon. New Republic Admirals that commit murder generally don't have a long time left in the universe.

I will kill them
If they ignore warnings
\act stupid
the dice come up that way, and there is NOT a reason why the baddie would only go for a maiming attack (assuming a baddie was the cause of the damage)...

That's generally the reason I will let them die. If they act retarded, they will pay the price.

And hopefully, that teaches them the lesson.

Some people though are more thick-headed than a Gamorrean. They have to keep getting killed over and over, never getting an advanced-level character because they keep doing stupid things. Rolling Eyes

Those are the kind of nerf-herders who can really make an otherwise excellent gaming session into a nightmare. Mad
