Special Abilities:
Technical Aptititude: Zanlites have an inate talent for engineering. Zanlite technicians can improve on and copy any device they have an oportunity to study, assuming the tech has an appropriate skill. This examination takes 1D days. Once learned, the technician can apply +2D to repairing or modifing such devices. These modifications are highly reliable and unlikely to breakdown.
Curiosity: Zanlites are attracted to new technology and unfamiliar machinery. When encountering new mechanical devices, Zanlites must make a Moderate Willpower roll (at a -1D penalty) or they will be unable to prevent themselves from examining it.
Possessions: Wardrobe of Clothes, Quick-Draw Pulse-Wave Blaster, BlasTech DT-57 "Annihilator" Heavy Blaster Pistol, BlasTech DC-15 Clone Trooper Blaster Rifle, LaserHone Talon vibrodagger, LaserHone Duelist Vibrorapier, Merr-Sonn Armored Spacesuit, Modified ARC-170 Starfighter War Raptor, Modified YZ-775 Transport Nomad, Very Heavily Modified Corellian Corvette Castaway's Crate.
Capsule: Even by current standards Captain Drake (his crew affectionately calls him Cap'n Dee) has had a very strange life..... Born to a human, Corellian, father, and a Zanlite Mother mellienia before the times of the Clone Wars and the Empire, "Dee" is a relic of a era long gone..... He got his first start in the ancient Old Republic Navy as a Midshipman and it looked as though his star would burn brite in the Navy until he made rank to junior grade lieutenant early at 17 by distinguishing himself in Mandalorian Wars as a fighter pilot. He then made the singular mistake of sleeping with a influential Admiral in the Republic's Navy's duaghter..... The irrate admiral promptly sabotaged Drake's career, on very flimsy charges, forcing him to part with the Navy in disgrace. Unable to find much legitimate work, because of the vengeful, powerful, admiral he turned to work as a mercenary and the private comerce raider to pay bills put food on the table.... In this capacity he worked for the Republic during the Jedi Civil War and early Dark Wars, by which time he was commanding a corvette-sized ship at the head of a small fleet of armed transports and starfighters.... Unfortunetely he had the missfortune to runing afoul of the mysterious Iego system, joining the thousands castaways shipwrecked there over many centuries (or as how Drake likes to put it with a wry grin, "Put in the cooler to dodge hellspawned, possibly force powerd, THINGS for a little over 4 melleniums...") ...... He refused to let his crew degenerate into barbarism like the rest of Iego's castaways and imedieatly begun working on ways to escape. Centuries would pass, he'd lose some of his crew to the "Demons" that dwell on Iego, and would recruit more people desperate to escape from the new castaways intermitently deposited on Iego to replace them, all with one overiding goal: Escape..... That opportunity would come late in the the Clone Wars with the arrival of a heavily damaged(but salvageable) Corellian, the Republic ship Protaganist, on Iego.... right in his lap.... It'd take till the time of the Rebellion agaist the tyrany of the Galactic Empire, just after The Battle of Hoth before he could capitalize on it, however, where he gave some newly stranded Alliance personel a ride off Iego in exchange for assistance in, and a safe place for, getting acclimated to the very different place the galaxy had become..... Suprisingly he and his crew addjusted to their new galaxy fairly well (anything was better then the hell of Iego)........ And fairly quickly..... Drake picked up where he left off, deciding to Become a Privateer in service to the Alliance to Restore the Republic. He took a Temporary commision in the alliance Navy just to participate in the Battle of Endor, but resiged to take back up privateering again when the Alliance preveiled in that fight. Personalitywise, Drake is charming and well mannered (even to outright enemies of his), and very loyal (almost to a fualt) to those he his true friends. His word is his bond, and honor is very important to him. If he has any faults, it is his impudance and desire to go his own way, a fierce hatred of slavers (which, while admirable, can sometime lead to him being, otherwise uncharacteristically so for him, ruthlessness toward said individuals), natural cockyness, and love for the opposite gender (this has got him in more bantha poodo the the previous three listed, combined at times) and which sometimes clouds his judgement at various times. Current status of his relationships are he is dating three other, female alliance privateers Cryna Zexx (a Zabrak), Loniea Tii (a Togruta) and Swilja Ani (a Twi'lek) and by all reports the three (very beautiful) corsairs (each at the head of there own small fleet) don't have (and very supprisingly so) a advisarial relationship at all over him, but rather have a freindly bet on who can get Drake into wedlock before one of the others do..... this is the subject of much side betting by the crews of all four fleets (behind their captains backs of course). Even Rebel tacticians (unorthodox themselves) have described his tactical thinking as "Wild, Insane, and Out of his ever-loving mind", but, are usually VERY successfull in practice, though he's possibly met his match (or better) in Grand Admiral Thrawn (His fleet took a pounding in an incident, where while raiding Thrawn's supply lines, the Chimera and some escorts tripped over him, and a large lightfight ensured, though fortunetly there were few casualties. However, repairs will be very expensive for Drake to cover...). He's also adapted amazingly well to the more modern technology of the current galaxy.
ADDENDUM/PERSONAL
CRACKEN, AIREN/GENERAL
I personally debriefed Drake after he gave one VERY badly stranded Alliance SpecForce team a ride off Iego. While I was skeptical of tales of the world Iego before, I've now come to believe them. Drake was definately telling the truth when he was speaking of his time on Iego, and debriefing the Specforce team confirmed it. Though a little "off kilter" he is honorable, charming and generally likeable. He doesn't really think of himself as a pirate (and he claims to have never, ever, engaged in outright piracy: I'm inclined to believe him.), and is slightly annoyed at being called by that particular label (He prefers the terms "Professional Private Commerce Raider" or "Soldier of Fortune with Scruples"). His tactical thinking is quite brilliant, and we have have repetedly attempted to get him to permanetly join the New Republic's armed forces, but he's very impudent, and stubborn when it comes to his independance, and seems happy in his current role. Admiral Ackbar, normally "disaproving" of "Pirates" has actually taken a liking to Drake and finds his "batty" antics a bit amusing... |
