Couldn't really think of a better place to put this, I was just wondering. When ships say crew: 1 (2 can coordinate), what does that equate to? The better of the two pilots gets a +1 bonus to their piloting skill, or does it just mean that you can divide up the various tasks between two if you so choose?

Per the Rules 2nd Edition Revised and Expanded, pg 246-47:

Crew: The 1st listing is the total crew for the ship under normal conditions. (A listing for "can combine" is the number of people who can combine to perform an action. Each ship has one prime person responsible for keeping control, running sensors, calculating hyperspace jumps etc. on smaller ships, one crew member may be responsible for all of these duties, , while on larger ships, one person may be in charge of each of these functions. While there might be hundreds of support crew manning the machinery, whether the action succeeds comes down to one characters skill roll - hence the crew skill listing. The "can combine" is the number of extra crew members who may be able to assist.)

the second number is the number of gunners; gunners are listed in addition to the normal crew complement.

The final number is the "skeleton crew" listing: the first part of the listing is the absolute minimum number of crew members necessary to fly the ship, while the number behind the slash is the increase in difficulty for any actions with the skeleton crew.

Pg 82 describes the Combined Actions Rules (which are way to long for me to re-type here)

Effectively yes. Depending on whether you use 2nd ed or 2nd R&E rules the one combining would get 1d or +1...

i always did the "co-ordinating" part as either pilot can do various ship functions, like one pilots while the other operates shields, sensors, astrogation, etc.

i used the analogy of two people driving a car at the same time (one pushing the pedals while another shifts gears) to get around the combining part. but a passenger can navigate while one drives, or make him not get multiple action penalties for lighting a cig or messing with the radio or the heater controls by doing it for him. justy my 2 cents...
