Corellian Engineering Corporation XS Stock Light Freighter

This is labeled a stock freighter, but it has hyperdrive x1, is faster than an X-wing, with better sensors than most starfighters, and is extremely heavily armed. This ship seems about as customized as the Millenimum Falcon. Given the amount of military equipment, high performance engines, sensors, and weapons I would think the ship would lose a good chunk of cargo space.

Were you intending this as the stock design or a heavily modified ship?

I only took a cursory look, but the hyperdrive jumped out at my like crazy. I know that there was a Copernican revolution in hyperdrive technology during the Mandelorian wars, but even then, this is pretty high above even the Ebon Hawk. I know that the bio says "leaps and bounds" but now we're asking the question as to how much "leaps and bounds" is. There was only a little bit of difference between that and the ships of the Old Republic. so now we're asking why at this point the hyperdrives were more or less equal with the Rebellion era.

I think we're having continuity issues for various reasons. WotC probably took things too far with their hyperdrive and now we've got only a little room to grow.

I know this isn't your fault, but whoever did the floorplan on this ship (as seen on the link) needs to be shot. What is very obviously a pair of engine exhausts on the external images is drawn up as a pair of airlocks on the floorplan. Perhaps the "leaps and bounds" included the invention of sublight and hyperdrives the size of a Crackerjack box.

Part of me feels like that's an evidence that we should just forget this flavor text altogether and just use our best judgement. If the people can't be bothered to think through things enough to know that they can't walk out of an engine, then they're not going to think through things enough to think what this will do to continuity stats.

Granted, that's a fallacy, but I'm gonna cling to it! Smile

Yeah, pretty much every one of these ships is probably too fast. The only possible exception would be the Phantom Transport.

But the rest of them that are listed as transports should either have slower hyperdrives, slower sublight engines, or both.

And some of the hull/shields are bit on the beefy side. The Thunderclap is rolling 7D to resist damage. Pretty darn hefty when it's compared to the Light Corvette that only has 5D to resist damage and it's 8 meters longer than the Thunderclap.

Plus, you've got all the weapons pre-mounted on transports. They pretty much should be classified as gunships rather than transport. 2 Laser Cannons, 2 Double Laser Turrets, 2 Concussion missile launchers, 150 tons of cargo, 3D in maneuver, 10 sublight speed, x1 hyperdrive AND a +2 bonus to modify and repair...why would anyone be in any other type of ship?

So I'm going to echo what the others have said and suggest you completely junk all of the flavor text for those ships and come up with stats that fit both the time period and the technology. This is Old Republic. The stuff isn't going to be better than anything the Empire has during the time of Star Wars, Empires Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi. Period. It's probably not going to be better than some of the best stuff of the Rebel Alliance either, as if it was the Rebels would have acquired some and would have been using them rather than the stuff they did use.

Basically, just compare all of these with stuff that came out later, trim all of the stuff back to match that or, even better, be less in most areas and you'll be on the right track.

the xs-800 from later time lines had the drive of x3 stock, scaling down the x1 on any of the ships would be a better plan due to the time frame

A good guideline would be the ships from the Tales of the Jedi Companion. Star Wars: The Old Republic occurs roughly 300-400 years after the events of the Tales of the Jedi comics, so the tech would be more similar to ships of that time period than ships of the classic era.

Sorry I've been gone for so long; seems like it's been ages since I've posted on here. I've read all of the feedback everyone has given me (and it's very much appreciated), and I'm in agreement that I need to scale back the stats on these ships are they are more comparitive to their TOTJ Sourcebook counterparts.

Much of my reasoning behind the way I developed these stats came from the newer stats from WOTC's Knights of the Old Republic campaign book and the ship descriptions on the Old Republic website. Most of the ships in the KOTOR book have hyperdrive ratings of x2 or x3, along with similar speeds. When converted to d6 (and I reviewed the KOTOR conversion book on this), the sublight speeds and the shield ratings are very similar to Rebellion era craft, along with the weapon strengths. As opposed to these stats, the fastest speed of a starship in TOTJ that I recall was Master Arca's Sungem, with a hyperdrive multiplier of x6 and a sublight speed of 6.

My dilemma was whether or not to reflect what a WOTC TOR sourcebook would most likely display (after d6 conversion), modify the starship stats to be slightly more advanced than the Great Sith War-era ships, or make some sort of compromise. I chose option 1, even though I really wanted to gravitate to option 2. Would option 2 be more accurate for the GMs/players, even if it potentially strikes out continuity?

Let me know and I'll rework these as necessary.

Well TOR is 300 yrs after the events of KOTOR so obviously the technology has improved, but probably not as good as what it'll be during the Dark Times/Rebellion era.

I would be greatly interested in seeing these continued/revised. I'm considering running a online TOR style game.

Lets not talk about the 4 m ceiling height as evident in the clip... Perhaps suitable in a yacht, but a freighter captain would probably find better use of all that space.. Laughing
