If that's so, then how do you visualize garhkal?
Obviously, like me, he looks exactly like his avatar. He is an Imperial rank insignia. Wink

I wouldn't say I look exactly like my avatar, but there are some resemblances.

Nice Whill. Smile One reason I know that the prequels are still space opera is the fact that I can tell that Palpatine is lying, but the characters in the movie can't. If it was a different style of Sci-Fi, much of the audience would be as confused and duped as the characters appear to be. Laughing

Most of the audience knew that Senator/Chancellor Palpatine would later become the Force-Lightning-shooting master of the Dark Side (and Vader) and evil Emperor of the Galactic Empire anyway. When my wife and I had started dating in the Fall of 2005, she had never seen any Star Wars movie, so I showed them to her in chronological order as an experiement in how her experience would be different than mine. She may have not completely trusted the Chancellor but she actually had no clue that Palpatine really was the phantom menace before Revenge of the Sith. And despite the signs leading up to it, she was still even more shocked that Anakin turned to the Dark Side. But despite the popular theory among fans in our generation that seeing the movies out of original release order would somehow ruin her experience of the prequels, my wfie's favorite movie out of the six is still fan-favorite TESB, the one that had the most spoiled by seeing the prequels first (She knew the mischevious little imp in the swamp was Yoda and that Darth Vader is Luke's father before Luke found out these things). Being a fan of the entire saga (and chronological order in general), of course I am thrilled that my wife is living proof that the theory was disproven.

I guess a point in response to your comment is that it is difficult to be completely objective about how you would view the prequel films (including your view of Palpatine's honesty or lackthereof) without the knowledge of (and feelings about) SW that you had going into your first viewings.

True, I can only watch the Sixth Sense once and be surprised. But I can appreciate how the audience is fooled on reviewing and even though I know how Psycho turns out when watching I still find certain scenes suspenseful and dramatic. But for me the many side glances and the overly syrupy tone of voice used by the Chancellor in AotC and RotS is a typical pulp give away. It was very typical in the pulps to have the major villain actually be a senior member of the good guy officials and have, in effect, a secret identity. And typically some, though not always all, of the good guys are surprised when the villain is unmasked in the end. I watched a number of old serials before seeing the first movies and quite a few more before seeing the prequels. So when I see the sly side looks and tone of voice it immediately signals secret villain to me.
