Here this the topic to end all topics.

What six sided dice does everyone use? Dots or Arabic numerals?

Since I used the dice from the family's board games I used the Dots. My gaming group having played other RPGs had several sets of multi-sided dice, used Arabic numerals.

How about you, Rancor Pit?

I use pixels.

Otherwise, around a real table its typically numeral dice as opposed to dots.

I've always used dots. Somehow, they help me count faster.

Me too. I group the 1's and 4's, 2's and 3's to make 5's.

Dots, at least until my kickstarter dice arrive and then I'll be using rocket shaped dice with a mix of pips and numerals on them.

Then later this year, I'll be using 12 sided dice with pips numbered 1-6

PIPS all the way! Arabic numerals on d6s just seem unnatural to me (and too D&D).

That's probably true for me although I've never played D6 with numeral dice so that remains untested.

The rocket-ship dice with pips look cool, but with that shape I'd probably feel like they may not roll "correctly".

I presume that these will be numbered 1-6 twice. Dodecahedrons are cool polyhedrons in general, and I do like that they have pips instead of numerals, but I still fail to see the point of these dice in a D6 game. Rolling a 12-sided die to achieve a result of 1-6? Why? Even with pips, using d12s for D6 seems to be an unnecessary D&Dification of the game, IMO. If you just want cool and unique dice to impress your friends, there are lot of cool d6s out there.

Great question, griff! Very Happy

That's exactly how I feel (with the exception of the D&D part). I don't know why, but I'm totally fine with the Arabic numerals on all of my other dice. But with D6s - both with this game (and others that only use D6s) and with games that use all of the various polyhedrons - I find that I like six-siders to have the pips.

One thing I've noticed some of my players do - and I think I've tried once - is to use the Arabic numeral one as the Wild Die. Makes it stand out much clearer as the Wild Die (as opposed to using one that you designate the color on, for example).

I also group mine, but tend to do so in groups of ten.

I use Arabic numbers, because most of my dice have them. For my wild die, I use one of these: http://www.gmdice.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/o/r/ork-dice-set-black.jpg

The 12 sided D6 just looks more scifi than pedestrian 6 sided dice.

I also evidently have a novelty dice addiction.

I'm in good company evidently as 6,916 other lost souls also ordered 12 sided D6's along side me.

They also make 12 sided D4s Twisted Evil

In that case it looks like you are feeding that addiction quite nicely.

I do exactly the same thing. I've generally used an Arabic numeral die for my Wild Die, and all my others have pips.

One time someone doled out dice for people at my table instead of me, and he just used a differed colored die rather than a different colored AND numeral'ed die, and it took people a while to find which one was wild.

I'm not sure what makes it grab the attention more, but apparently I'm not the only one it works for.

And yeah, I tend to group my dice into 10's to make them easier to count.

For one campaign, I bought every player a new set of pipped d6s. They were all the same style, shape and size, but each set was a different color. I had the players all choose a set, and then they each had to trade one die with another player, so the off-color die in each player's set became his wild die. In play it was very clear which die was each roll's wild die.

That's a good idea, Whill. And six-siders are pretty cheap, usually. I picked up a set of different primary colored ones at the dollar store (so $1 for like six D6s).

Lately I've been using the Arabic numeral one as the Wild Die, and it does work better.

EDIT: Arrow What types or brands of dice do you use? (2017)
