I imagine that the empire would treat like many other low tech planents. If they did not complie with what the empire wants; orbital bombardment.
I am sure it would be possible for some world gov'ts to scrape together missles that could fire into space, but capable of destroying Star Destroyers? I am unsure.
Of course, taking these things into account would make for less fun than not to. And it of course is possible some games might stage insugent attacks led by minoirities and smallspecially trained groups, and the gov'ts could "go along" with the empire while secretly working to make things difficult, with long tediouse bearacracy, office breaking. The empire cant exactly destroy you planent because your fax machine broke down, again, and you can't send the reports they despertly need, after all. |

I'd expect Earth to capitulate. It's not like we even have a world government. We'd just bow to the instated system governor (who's likely to be a complete idiot, considering how useless Sol system is, unless we're along a good trade route, which is doubtful.)
As a pre-spacer world, there's little of use here. They'd probably strip-mine the planet for anything still useful and maybe install a garrison here.
I don't even think the Rebellion would have much of a use for Earth.

The Empire at it's height, ya. But if we're dealing with Imperial Remnants that are scrambling for anything they can get, then we'd be a bloody useful place.
The moon and asteroid fields haven't been touched yet (Never mind the other planets), I'm sure Jupiter could be mined for Blaster Gas, the Population of Earth is advanced enough that they could easily be trained for Star Wars-Technology, and we have an insanely large standing army for a planet (When compared to other planets).
Finally, there's the fact that we're fractured. Easier to take over, one bit at a time. |

Okay, so let's imagine for a moment that there's large deposits of Tibanna blaster gas in Jupiter (just to make this interesting) and that the Imperial Remnant stumbles into Sol system.
Considering the non-existance of the exploratory corps at this time, it would have to be an accidental discovery by either a military vessel or an Imperial-friendly tramp freighter.
An initial scan of the system shows that there's a large gas giant filled with tibanna gas, an asteroid field (with possibly useful mineral deposits) and an inhabited planet with pre-lightspeed space facilities. These facilities are manned by humans, which is a big plus for most old-line Imperials. First thing they'd do is try standard frequencies (which we've already been told is the equivelant of radio) and probably contact Mir or a shuttle or something.
They'd probably identify themselves, ask for whatever help they need, then leave to file a report.
Palleon, being who he is, would probably send a diplomatic mission to the system aboard a shuttle, probably keeping a Star Destroyer in a nearby system on alert but not actually diverting it to Sol unless something goes wrong (he can't afford to have a front-line warship sitting on its @$$).
A grand summit of the United Nations is convened to meet with the diplomatic envoy and the meeting lasts several weeks while the envoy brings Terra up to speed on the state of the Galaxy (from a Remnant point of view) and makes an offer of membership. The meeting would take longer, save for the availability of protocol droids and the like.
Basically: The Empire wants the Sol resources, especially the tibanna gas deposits on Jupiter. They also want Earth to provide the manpower resources to run the mining operation. If it were the old Empire, they'd just garrison the planet and work us as slaves. Since it's the Remnant, they make an offer for peacefully joining the Empire first. The Vong invasion gives them a good diplomatic wedge as well, "The Empire is the last great power that can keep the extra-galactic alien invaders at bay!" They'll also try to play off xenophobia if possible, "The Empire is made up of humans, just like you. We need to stick together in a galaxy full of strange and terrible creatures."
The nations of Earth all want the advanced technology that the Empire can provide, of course. Most of them leap at the chance, despite talk of installing a "planetary governor" and the need for "planetary solidarity to the Imperial cause" and the like. The First World powers are savvy enough to realize that the technology is necessary to compete, while third-world nations are eager for any chance to get a leg-up. A few nations, realizing that we'd be allying ourselves with an interstellar dictatorship, decline. But enough of a majority passes that Terra joins the Empire.
At this point a garrison is placed on Terra (where is left up to your imagination, but probably close to the Imperial Governor's palace) and Imperial doctrine and Galactic technology are added to the world's collective body of knowledge. Oh, and LOTS of people are shipped off to construct and then work-in the Jupiter gas mines, many of them from starving, overpopulated nations of the world.
Meanwhile, the nations that did not agree to join the Empire are placed under martial law by the Imperial Governor, stormtroopers and Imperial walkers and TIE-Fighters and all the usual display of "law and order" are used to keep the potentially rebellious population in line. However, our society hasn't caught up to Galactic-level technology just yet, so these nations are under-policed by Imperial standards. This stuff becomes even more exacerbated when the New Republic catches wind of this system and infiltrates a few old-school Rebel sympathizer agents into Terra.
So basically we become another Imperial-controlled system, more or less. Once we catch up technologically (whole nations re-geared to Galactic standard levels and the like) then sympathies for the Empire based on them will probably rapidly wane, and we'll see a movement for Terra reclaiming its rights to the Tibanna mines on Jupiter. Possibly open rebellion and / or a try at joining the New Republic.

Good rebuttal!
OK, now, imagine that Sol was found by an old Imperial Probe, but was too far to do anything about.
Then the Empire fell. Now you have an Imperial Warlord that just go ousted from his nice, comfy position with a set of Star Destroyers (And smaller escorts), and needs a place to lay low, lick his wounds, restock on people and parts...
And has the files on Earth.
Oh, and yes, said Imperial Warlord is of the "Old Hat" Imperials and don't want nothing to do with no Aliens.
And there's stats and info on Imperial Garrisons in the Star Wars Sourcebook, IIRC. They're acutally pretty deadly. And, if you stick two of them together on the bottom, they make a nice Space Station.  |
