Confused
I'm not sure.
Lightsabers are the best weapon for destroying other weapons.

Here's a brief excerpt from the "blue book" talking about lightsabers:

Quote:
...lightsabers are harnessed energy blades capable of cutting through the densest of materials. Because the energy blade produces no resistance and has virtually no weight, it is very dangerous for beginners to use...

There is no clear definition of exactly what the lightsaber blade is. Without getting too technical, my best guess would be...cool.

Like many things in Star Wars, the lightsaber appears to vilolate several laws of our science - but hey - our "laws of science" are not the definitive answers laymen are led to believe they are.

Choose any answer you like: 1) Imperial technology is better than ours and can do things ours cannot 2) It's a lost alien technology 3) Only the Jedi can make them because there's a force trick as part of their construction 3)Your director knows but your character doesn't

In some of the literature it is said that to create a lightsaber requires a Jedi as the jedi uses the force to bring the molecules into allignment (among other things). The thing I'm wondering is that if the 'blade' isn't solid then a jedi trying to parry something solid like a bullet will be in for a nasty surprise as the bullet is turned into white hot slag but is otherwise undeflected.

Clearly the blades can interact with themselves. This is proof they are solid or have a field integrity that is solid. (We can do the same thing, but it involves 2.5m high electromagnets.) Just a guess: If a lightsaber can stop personal energy weapons they can stop bullets.

well i remember reading that when two saber blades come in contact they push away from each other, and it is hard to push them together. this is also why blaster bolts bounce off it.

This is why I wondered if the repulsion effect was what stops other lightsaber blades and blaster fire or not (Just like magnets repel each other and ceramics at near absolute zero temperatures but nothing much else).

Perhaps I should just try shooting a solid projectile at a Jedi and see what my director does...

you could just ask you directer first, it's safer.
I am, after reading these posts, not sure about lightsabers anymore.

Volar the Healer recommends fellow Jedi use telekenesis to stop projectiles. But for those who insist a lightsaber is somehow not solid, please give an example from the movies.

that would be pretty hard even for a skilled jedi. or at least require a high alter roll to stop something like a bullet.

it's not a reaction skill... only reaction skills can be used during someone else's action... now if the bullet was coming from really really far away... i might allow a jedi a chance to roll telekenesis against a bullet. but that's just me
