So, what would be some names to use for Difficulty levels above Heroic? In the Dark Empire Sourcebook, some of the over-the-top Dark Side powers had difficulties in the Heroic + 10 range, and D6 Space shifted the high-end of the chart around a little (the Very Difficult range was reduced, Heroic was moved down, with Legendary added above it), so there is obviously some precedent for this. Do any of you use Difficulty levels that exceed the RAW, and what do you call them? I'm not looking for a copy-and-paste from the thesaurus, though...

Superbad is a little too slangy for me...

I'm thinking Heroic, then Legendary, then Epic...

One of my players referred to Heroic + as Effing Insane.
Very Happy

The 7th Sea system had the standard difficulties (i.e. very easy--very difficult) and then some of the more amazing rolls were characterized as:

35+: Never done before.
40+ Never to be done again.

That would work if people would get capped at a max # of die they can increase skills to. But when you get pcs able to reach 10d+ in skills, 35 is an average roll for them.

Yeah, the scale would have to be stretched. I just thought they were cool ideas.

Then perhaps the scales need to get streched from the get go, not just at the 30+ Heroic level.

I'd be very hesitant to change something so central to the game rules. Better to leave the lower levels as is and start adding levels above and beyond that only for when characters actually reach the point where the levels are a possibility.

I came across this while looking for something else, and thought I'd bump it with an update. Here's a revised standard difficulty list, with just a hint of D6 Space to add to the concept:
    Simple (Automatic Success)
    Very Easy (1-5)
    Easy (6-10)
    Moderate (11-15)
    Difficult (16-20)
    Very Difficult (21-30)
    Heroic (31-40)
    Spectacular (41-50)
    Prodigious (51-60)
    Legendary (61-70)
    Epic (71-80)
    Supreme (81-90)
    Transcendent (91-100)
    Inconceivable (100+)
    Impossible (Automatic Failure)

D6 Space was the source for the Legendary difficulty level (although I moved it up a few notches), but I kept the RAW's use of 10 digit values for levels above Difficult. I did this because it is the system with which everyone is familiar, and because it allows GMs to push levels much higher to deal with higher level PCs who begin to consistently make Heroic rolls. Start upping the ante.

EDIT: Added Simple & Impossible as per a suggestion over on G+

I don't use the difficulty levels and names.

I just use a number. Whatever it happens to be.

One man's 'Easy' is another man's 'Very difficult'.

If I give the number as 10...each player can figure out for themselves whether it's difficult, easy, or heroic for them to attempt it.

You may use what you like, but the basic system we derive our own universes and rules from uses names. I make an effort to design house rules that use techniques already used within the RAW so as to be more readily familiar to those adapting the rule to their own game. In this instance, the RAW's Difficulty levels all have names. Therefore, so do the levels I add on. Besides, "Difficulty of 63" is just plain boring compared to "Legendary Difficulty".

EDIT: Added two more levels above Supreme, because I'm crazy like that.
