Hi all, longtime lurker/reader here, finally posting to the Pit.

I'd been statting up "obscure characters" for a year and a half or so, in the g+ Star Wars D6 group, for their regular "Character Tuesday" feature. Some house-rules crept into the first handful of stat blocks and tended toward the higher end for NPC die-codes, but once I got going, most became standard 2E/REUP fare, as well as a bit more balanced. All of the early ones are, of course, still obviously and readily 2E/REUP/1E compatible as well. I usually update it with a new character on a regular basis: weekly, biweekly, or monthly depending on RL time constraints, of course. Anyway, hope you dig — and that these characters see some use in your adventures!

FORMAT UPDATE: Index of Characters now added below.

2015-2017 entries are PDFs. 2018-Present are in-thread posts.

Not a member of the G+ group but I absolutely love these obsure
character stats, especially the Clone Wars ones, which I'm hoarding
like a maniac for a future game.

Keep up the great work, it is very much appreciated

Love that you did Embo. He's a house. I love characters who have multi-functional weapons...his metal hat allows him to block blaster bolts AND go all Odd Job on your @$$.

Also love that you did Mermeia, or whatever her name was from the Star Wars Holiday Special. Basically the only porn star in the SWU so far...lol. Hey, that gives me a campaign idea...and it's exactly as perverted as you might suppose.

Have you skipped particular clones because their stats would be just about identical? I mean, Commanders like Cody, Gree, Bly and then regular troopers like Fives and Cutup will preeeetty much have the same stats as the other clone troopers of the same rank.

Theoretically, I will begin work on the colossal project of coordinating the creation of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars Galaxy Guide at some point. You have statted a good dozen or more from the show.

How do you decide who to stat? Is the lone criterion that they be obscure?

Thank you for the kind words, Xain! I did always think that the Clone Wars era was somewhat under-represented in D6 circles.
Hope these Clone Wars obscurities do wind up making appearances in your future games!

Thank you for the warm welcome and the kind words, Error!

Yeah, Embo was definitely a favorite of mine. Glad he managed to make it out of the Clone Wars series alive and that the Kyuzu got some live-action canonization in TFA as well. Your Clone Wars project sounds daunting, but awesome. Glad to have pitched in then, in some form, with these write-ups.

And re: Mermeia, right? I can't believe that Mermeia made it past network censors in what was ostensibly a kid-friendly (albeit evening-aired) program. That's the late 70's for you, I guess?

Re: certain clones, that's exactly it. For ShootingWomprats' upcoming Rebels S2 sourcebook, I did stat up Rex, Gregor and Wolffe, though those guys don't qualify as obscure, I suppose. And of course, they each had their particular specialties, with Wolffe being more tactically-minded, having some tracking skills as well as capital ship experience, and with Gregor the commando being such a nut now, while also having "scholar: restaurant maintenance."

And the primary criterion is the obscurity, yes, but I do run with themes: I did a number of entries for characters in Star Wars: Uprising and Jabba's Palace, for example. Though, superficially, I also just have to like the characters' aesthetic / think they look cool, haha. Right now, I'm somewhat loosely focused on games, though there's some overlap: Keri Belab was the most recent, and while she was first "named" in the Star Wars Rebels: Recon Missions mobile game, the brunette Minister Tua character model that became Belab already appeared in the series premiere.

At some point, I do plan to follow a stricter set of guidelines over a set period of time, like that A-Z challenge that some folks undertook
-- as CRMcNeill (I believe it was) did with his starship posts from last year.

With Moroff's databank entry, action figure packaging and wookieepedia's info collage providing only a basic bio,
at least the burly heavy gunner gains some more personality in this quote from the film's creature effects supervisor,
Neal Scanlan, even if somewhat tongue-in-cheek: https://goo.gl/5GDrHZ.

--------------------------

And thanks be to Pablo: Moroff makes use of a WEG alien for the identity of his Talz/Wampa/Wookiee-like species – see revision below:

GIGORANS
(revised)

Attribute Dice: 12D
DEXTERITY: 2D/4D
KNOWLEDGE: 1D/2D
MECHANICAL: 1D/3D
PERCEPTION: 2D/4D
STRENGTH: 4D/6D
TECHNICAL: 1D/2D
Move: 10/12
Size: 2.0-2.25 meters tall

Special Abilities & Story Factors:

Bashing: Adult Gigorans possess considerable upper-body strength. They gain a +1D damage bonus to brawling attacks made using their arms and heavy paws.

Language Limitation: Due to their vocal physiology, Gigorans cannot speak Basic, but they are fully capable of understanding the language.

Source: Adapted from Alien Encounters supplement by West End Games (pp.64-65).

--------------------------

The original WEG Gigorans stats seemed suitable to use almost exactly as they were – with the only minor amendments I made above being:

1. Bumping down their PER range slightly, as they now seem less so to have the keen simian-senses that WEG originally envisioned them as having, as well as bumping down their size range a shade.

2. Making their Move 10/12, rather than the too-fleet-of-foot 12/14. Described by WEG as long-limbed, the Rogue One incarnation retains the long upper limbs but gains shorter legs: with the basketballer-turned-creature-actor playing Moroff checking in at 2.16 meters tall, but made to wear a costume with a much lower waist (seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2N0Mn4i4Dw), I figure the gait of this more lumbering physique makes their speed roughly equal to humans, but slower than Wookiees' 11/15.

3. Slight rephrasing of the special abilities, with the addition of being unable to speak basic, hence the need for a voice-translator box.

Anyway, hope you dig!

EDIT: Thanks to a suggestion from someone in the g+ group (ebertran here in the Pit), I have updated Moroff's pdf and the species special abilities above. I replaced WEG's "Personal Ties" story factor, with one on being unable to speak Basic, as there's no real evidence in the new Canon that Gigorans care much for family, etc. Not specifically stating his species' language limitation was definitely an oversight!

CHARACTER TUESDAY has decoded a subspace transmission from Rogue One: stats and write-up for HAXEN DELTO, Alliance Colonel tasked with overseeing HoloNet and subspace communications at Yavin 4, and right hand man to General Draven!

Thanks to Star Wars: Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide, Colonel Delto is not only named, he also gains a persona and role befitting the actor's stern expression.
____________________________________________________________

Long but (hopefully) funny story: Let me first preface this by saying I do love wookieepedia, and their wealth of information. The site's invaluable and I use it probably everyday. That said, the writing is not the best, due to so many hands being in the pot at one time / due to too many cooks in the kitchen, etc, and it would benefit from greater consistency and Quality Control – something which tfwiki, for example, excels at. Again, without a doubt, wookieepedia is a great resource, but is not without its problems, like many things, right? And so...

I finally registered to edit several weeks ago, while doing research for the Rebel Recon Missions obscure characters, since I noticed that a handful did not yet have wookieepedia entries. Fast forward to this past weekend, when I started working on Rogue One characters:

After adding Haxen Delto's entry to wookieepedia, and after tracking down the actor who played him and adding that as well, the page for the actor was initially flagged as "Needs Citation" – despite my having already added that the actor, Hiu Woong-Sin, was credited in Rogue One's IMDb cast list only as Adjutant to General Draven, along with the appropriate links. As Delto was only later identified in the Visual Guide, I asked a kind mod what additional hoops needed to be jumped through in cases like his, because there would be many, many minor characters who might go uncredited in the film itself, and whose actors would only ever have IMDb and/or resume text to show for their role in the film.

What with IMDb also not being 100% reliable, I expected to encounter additional but unavoidable fandom-wiki redtape (understandable of course, as the wook would want to prevent "fanon" from making its way into canon resources). I was pleasantly surprised, however, when the "Verify/Needs Citation" tag was later removed by another mod, whose simple response was, "Just look at the picture of his character" ... an image I had also just uploaded. Oh well – Bureaucracy: internet 5D?

In any case, only the Obscure Character Archive gets the cleaned up / newly-bordered photo! W00t. TLDR: Hope you dig and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Telsij, I appreciate your efforts. I also realize Wookieepedia is not perfect and I occasionally find errors, but it is a great resource overall and I use it all the time too.

Thank you for the kind words, Whill! As I very much enjoy the "research" of statting characters, I figured that while I'm at it anyway,
why not also contribute to the body of work of like-minded record-keepers, whose efforts I have so often benefited from myself?

CHARACTER TUESDAY goes ape, or rather... goes Space Monkey. Stats and write-up for BISTAN, Iakaru U-Wing gunner from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story!
Many thanks to Pablo Hidalgo's RO Visual Guide, for fleshing out a background for Bistan that lent itself well to adapting the Iakaru species to D6 mechanics.

See link above for BISTAN and see species stats below:

IAKARU
Homeworld: Iakar
Attribute Dice: 12D
DEXTERITY 2D+2/4D+2
KNOWLEDGE 1D/3D
MECHANICAL 1D/3D+1
PERCEPTION 2D/4D
STRENGTH 2D+1/4D+1
TECHNICAL 1D/2D+2
Move: 10/12

Special Abilities & Story Factors

Exceptional Spatial Awareness: Having evolved in jungle canopy, swinging through dense trees, the surefooted lakaru have developed
quick reflexes and a high degree of body control. Even their sensitive brow tufts contribute to the lakaru's sense of spatial awareness.
In game terms, lakaru gain a +2D bonus to their climbing/jumping rolls, and a +1D bonus to any Dexterity checks that are required to maintain or regain their footing.

Imperial Occupation: With the rise of the Empire and its military expansion, the demand for medical supplies escalated, bringing about the full-scale seizure and Imperial occupation of the planet lakar.

Pre-Spacefaring Society: The lakaru have not yet developed hyperdrive technology, and thus, they are an uncommon sight off of lakar. Their homeworld, however, has long been visited by interstellar trade. For nearly a century, pharmaceutical corporations have sought out the valuable organic compounds that can be harvested from the lush rain forests girding the planet.

Due in part to their already tentative, but increasingly strained trading relationship with the pharmaceutical companies that had set up major research installations on lakar during the Clone Wars, the lakaru are not completely unfamiliar with technology, and are capable of readily adopting its use. However, in game terms, beginning Iakaru characters may not place any starting skill dice in starship operation skills, or in technological repair skills.

Visual Acuity: The lakaru possess acute depth perception, as well as keen eyesight. In game terms, the lakaru gain a +1D bonus to visually-based search skill checks.

Sources: Star Wars: Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide. Stats by Telsij.

EDIT: Updated Bistan's pdf, and the posted species write-up above, with a minor amendment to a Species Story Factor for the Iakaru. Changed Primitive Society to Pre-Spacefaring Society, and removed beginning Iakaru characters' inability to place starting skill dice in vehicle operation, while retaining their inability to place starting dice in starship operation skills. After reading the brief Q&A with Pablo Hidalgo linked below, where he says that while Iakaru are "beyond Ewok technology", they are "maybe not as technically inclined as Wookiees," this change made sense. http://www.starwars.com/news/much-to-learn-you-still-have-talking-rogue-one-aliens-with-pablo-hidalgo

Really liking your Character Tuesdays, look forward to seeing who's next each week. The bonus species stats for this one are great.

Not enough recognition of your hard work and effort on these I feel. Keep up the awesome job Telsij

Thank you, Xain! I am glad you are digging them! And no worries, no "recognition" needed, if the obscure characters are fun and of use to people, as I also enjoy the process. Been on a Rogue One kick for obvious reasons, but may try switching it up again soon.

How can an alien the size of a Hobbit (3 ft.) have a ceiling in STR over that of a human? I mean I understand if there's a reason but I am having a hard time believing it currently.

Heavier gravity environment can account for reduced size but more powerful musculature compared to a standard gravity species.

Some animals are stronger than humans, despite their smaller size

Bistan is listed as being about 5'8" (1.73m): definitely not the size of a Hobbit.

And as the Iakaru were pretty clearly based on simians, especially given the species background Pablo provides in the Visual Guide, about the species evolving swinging through trees in the rain forest, etc, they'd at the very least be of comparable strength to humans.

Even a slight-of-stature adult chimpanzee is mighty strong, nearly twice as strong as a human in RL (in terms of pound-for-pound strength, while adjusting for their smaller body sizes). Since there were no specific references to Iakaru having that level of strength, however, and because they are of similar body size to humans, I didn't want to make it an exact parallel to simian strength without canon evidence. So, I statted them as slightly stronger than humans on average, which IMHO makes sense given their species background as a monkey-like species.

So while Bistan has the advantage of his physicality, the rebels won't ever have to worry about his tearing their arms off in a fit of rage
– not that he would, of course, lovable rascal that he is.
