There's only one type of Dodge in the 1E Core Rulebook. If your character Dodges, then he adds his Dodge code to the target number (based on range) to hit him, making him harder to hit.

In other game supplements and in 2E, the Dodge and Full Dodge concept was introduced.

But, let me say, 1E players, that you do not want to introduce those other Dodge concepts into your 1E game. 1E is not forgiving. It's a brutal game.

Any successful hit, whether the defending STR roll is higher or not, will STUN the target.

There is no "Wounded Twice" result. A character is Wounded, and if he's wounded again, he becomes Incapacitated. This means: DON'T GET HIT.

There are no Character Points to use to boost defense. Your STR rating is it.

There's armor, but it only helps a little, usually comes with a cost (like DEX reduction), and most SW characters don't wear armor anyway.

All you've really got for help is Force Points, and you start the game with a single Force Point that can help you in exactly one combat round.

So....you NEED your Dodge to be something that will protect you.

And...you NEED to focus on getting that target number needed to hit you as high as possible. Keep range between you and your foe. Use cover! Drop to the ground to reduce your target size (if your Ref is using the Optional Fire Modifers Chart). And, keep lots and lots of Medpacs handy.

A Dodge, in 1E, is your main defense against Stuns, Wounds, and Worse.

I use modified 1E, and while I use the RAW dodge, I also allow a character to make a full round "evasive movement" type dodge that adds to the difficulty for all action segments, but doesn't permit other actions apart from one movement. Seems to work out well enough, and prevents a lot of engineer types from finding where the enemy lost his blaster bolt. Very Happy
