When the players buy a used starship I think it should have a few quirks. After all they often get it for less that half the original price.
Quirks can also be useful when munchkin players modify the ship beyond their repair skills. But coming up with new quirks can be hard, so here are the starship quirks from "Platt's smugglers guide".
If you have idears for other quirks please share so we ca get a long useful list of starship quirks.

Landing gear won't retract

Powering up weapons drans energy from another system (life support, shields, maneuver etc.)

One exterior maintenance port belches smoke in atmosphere

Interior lights go out when shields powred up

All interior hatches seal when guns are operational

Only one entry hatch will open at a time

Atmosphere control system stuck on "cool" or "hot"

Mysterious squeaking comes from beneath deckplates in bunk cabin

Comm system is plagued with occasional static

Cockpit chair padding is lumpy and uncomfortable

Opening an interior hatch temporarily activates the hull breach alarm

Forward strobe lamps are always lit when starship is in operation

Maintenance labels and interior markings are in a strange alien language

Insignificant red light on command console keeps blinking

Loose deck plate trips anyone running through corridor

Something won't work until you hit it in just the right spot. (Landing Gear is a great choice for this one. We call it the CF-100 Canuck Quirk).

Graffitti in an unknown alien language that you can't paint over.

Gravity is different in various sections.

AutoChef is from a strange culture that only eats specific items. (Hmmmmm, Bantha, Bantha, Bantha, Or Bantha? Think I'll have Bantha tonight.).

Adware has invaded the computer systems, and refuses to leave. ("I see you're starting up the engines! While they're going through their automatic sequence, how would you like a Fizzy-Glug?").

Engines "False Start" quite often, and it takes a few attempts to get them to fully come online.

One Forward Light refuses to come on, no matter what. (Pididdle!).

The sound system for the ship has a Verpine Chamber Music disk stuck in the drive, and you can't play anything else on it.

All Doors on ship make strange "Whoosh" sound that seems to come from another Sci-Fi series.

Non-Standard Hyperspace Engine repairs makes everyone nervous, but it works. ("Ya, I know it's a metric screw in the balancer housing, and it's a touch small, so I used a bit of leather to secure it in place and...").

Non-Standard Landing Gear on ship that looks silly. (Legs deploy, then inflate ugly coloured balloons for water landing, even when you're on land.).

Or even at IRREGULAR intervals.

It'd really suck to have the klaxon go off at two in the morning one night. Then four fifteen the next night.
One forty the night after that.
Twelve thirty anyone?

Repulsors kick out every once in a while for a second or so (Wheeeee!)

Sometimes full throttle kicks on the hyperdrive

Manual Power Transmission. (If you're really mean, make it "Three in the Tree").

In my current game, the PCs bought a real lemon...

Cargo lift in one hangar bay won't lower
When going all out, cockpit fills with smoke
Infested with a Avyrix... a space rodent that eats the wires and shorts systems
The guns sometimes lose fire control

It wasn;t bought this way, but they had a shipment of fruit rot in their cargo bay and the potent, rotten smell infiltrated the entire ship and was impossible to clean until they had it professionally done.

They got all of the above fixed, except the cockpit problem which nobody can seem to find.

But then they went and got a 1x hyperdrive installed... no whenever they enter hyperdrive, all systems (except the hyperdrive and related components, and life support) shut down for one round before they enter hyperspace and stay down until they exit hyperspace.

These all make for some fun situations...

1) ship cannot be turned off from the cockpit.
2) ship gives a 'larger' signiture than normal ( a bonus to someone finding the ship with sensors)

And some good ones..

Previous owner installed a pair of high quality chef droids (say 8-9d in culuniary)
Previous owners installed 2-3 tons worth of secret compartments, one may be still full!!
Previous owners installed a secret weapon or two...

How about these:

*When in use, the sonic showers cause all monitors to go snowy.

* Sharp manuvers cause the vac toiletts to flow backwards.

*Mabey the ship leaks sewage when powered down and docked. this could create some interesting complications with the locals.

*Temperature control stays at a constant 90 degrees.

* Faulty ventilators keep the viewports and screens all foggy.

*Water dispensers randomly squirt out blobs of foamy, yellow sludge.

*An accidental cross-wiring of the ship's chronometer, accelleration compensator and the gravity generator causes motion sickness only on Mondays.

*Perhaps an irrepairable short in the Holo-projector only gives the crew the option of watching naughty Hutt "movies".

*The John could be full of blaster holes.

*Upon close inspection of the John, there could be a thermal detonator welded into the wall and rigged to blow if the flusher is pulled.

*Grafitti on the outside of the ship says something crude in Wookie or Huttese.

Ship is equipped with Fluidics instead of Electronics. Sure, you get a +1D to resist Ion Damage, but if it breaks, the ship is going to be very wet, and you'll need a plumber to fix the problems!

Maybe the previous owner intentionally cross wired all the system ops controls?
**************
Smuggler: "Alright! Now this is my kinda deal! Only in Mos Eisley can you buy a shiny, used Ghtroc for only 5k!"

Wookie co-pilot: "Rrooaaarr!"

Smuggler: "Whaddaya mean the sewage tanks just let loose? All I did was hit the ramp controls!"

Wookie co-pilot: "Rrooaar! RAAAAA!!"

Smuggler: "What the h***? Now the ignition switch is arming the quad lasers?"

A rumbling hum begins to rattle the ship...

Smuggler: "Tell me that wasn't the the hyperdrive!"

Wookie co-pilot: "RRRRRRRAAAAAOOORRR!!"

Smuggler: "No NO! Whatever you do, DON'T try to turn it off!!"

Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

Thanks for the help everybody!

Here is a nice table for when the player try to save some credits and buy a used ship.

Roll 1D (wild die) to find the number of quirks and then roll two dies:

11: Landing gear won´t retract
12: Powering up weapons drans energy from another system (life support, shields, maneuver etc.)
13: One exterior maintenance port belches smoke in atmosphere
14: Interior lights go out when shields powred up
