Just got a copy on Kindle. I loved the book. I went through it in a few days for my "train reading."

You know, there are only a couple of reviews on Amazon. If we all liked it, it wouldn't hurt to leave a fellow RP'er a review. He did, after all, give us the background of the universe to play around in. Smile

Great idea. I'll definitely post something this weekend.

I just got around to posting my 5-star review on Amazon. It says it may be a few days before it is posted.

That's pretty awesome that the owner of WEG posted a little review of the book.

My review posted, and it is currently the longest 5-star review. If you would be so kind, please vote it as "Helpful". Thank you. And please add your own review too! I think we all owe it to Bill Slavicsek to help promote his book.

On p.71, Slavicsek describes an email from a fan, which is our own hisham (the artist who drew Fluffy in the Rancor Pit ad.) Cool, huh?

Sweet. Always nice to see a fan site like this, referenced elsewhere...

Nice, didn't know about this book, but if Whill's review is accurate it should be right up my alley.

Wouldn't have come across it if not for this thread, thanks!

I feel my Amazon review is accurate. But please read the book and post your opinion of the book here.

I've just started reading it today.

I'm only a few paragraphs in and something struck me. If the Wikipedia page for Bill Slavicsek is accurate, he would have have been 5 years old (not quite 6) when A New Hope first dropped in 1977.

But he talks about skipping high school to attend opening day.

Clearly the Wikipedia entry is off.

Surprised that this book is 5 years old, and I'd never even heard of it!

LOL, yeah. Even Wikipedia says he was hired as an editor of WEG in 1986, so he would have been only 14-15 at that time, and 15-16 when he took over the Star Wars project. The article's source is the The Internet Speculative Fiction Database website so that seems to be the source of the error. That young birthdate makes no sense, and his own biographical work indicates he is older so I'll trust that source.

We talked about this book here in 2018 and 2019, so that must have been during a hiatus from this site. I'm glad this thread got bumped and you're reading the book now!

I see that my Amazon review is still the top review of this book. Ewok

Another user here, Hisham, is mentioned in the book, though not by name, unfortunately. I thought it was a nice little Easter egg while reading.

The Modern Star Wars Universe Owes Its Existence To An RPG Most Fans Have Never Played [/Film]

A new web article refers to a three-part series of magazine articles from 10 years ago which covered the history of Star Wars roleplaying. The first of the three magazine articles (Star Wars Insider #144) is all about WEG, and it quotes Bill Slavicsek who I had dubbed to be "the father of the EU" after reading his book. I included an extra copy of this SW Insider issue as a bonus prize in one of 20th Anniversary Celebration winner's package, but I can't remember which one.

Far out!

This article popped up in my Google feed, so my phone algorithms clearly have me pegged quite accurately, even though I rarely have visited the Pit using it.
