Episode IX begins filming in a few days, and they officially announced the cast yesterday.

And I called it on Leia: They are using unused footage of her from TFA so Leia has a presence in the film. They reaffirmed that they are not using CG or recasting her.

I normally don't post these news/speculation threads for new movies until the title is announced, but for this one I didn't wait for that. They'll probably announce the title in December or January.

So the big rumors out there now are that Richard E. Grant is playing Thrawn and/or Keri Russel is playing Mara Jade. I'd be surprised if either of these is true, but at this point I hope they are true. After TLJ I just want a good Star Wars movie so I don't care who is in it if it's good. And this level of fan service should hopefully stifle a lot of the hatred in the fandom right now.

I agree completely, though I'd be truly gobsmacked if they used Zahn's characters here. (And personally, while I like Kari Russel in many things, she strikes me as being very far from Mara Jade? I've been wrong before though.) |

Way back when the first X-Men movie came out, I didn't think Hugh Jackman could pull off Wolverine.... boy was I wrong...
Anne Hathaway as Catwiman is another example of a pleasant surprise. |

I can't imagine logan without Jackman's face these days.. So yes, someone we don't know CAN do a great job in a role, and make it their own.

Thank the Force they are bringing back Lando Calrissian. Ep IX would have been poorer for his absence.
