Per the RAW, Acrobatics as a normal skill is only available to the Trianii species, so obviously all those human acrobats out there are in for a shock. REUP made it a generally available skill, but IMO, what Acrobats do is sufficiently above and beyond normal use of Running, Climbing and Jumping to merit being an Advanced Skill. As with First Aid and (A) Medicine, there will be some task overlap (see bacta tank operation) but at different difficulty levels.

I don't disagree. But I am not aware that the skill is species specific. Do you have a book/page number?

I think the referance is to Alien encountes pg 159.

Though I could not find whewre this was species spesific, as it was not listed under special abilities, but a "boost" called special balance was , and this added to among other skills acrobatics.

But I could not find where this was species spesific, but it very well have neen in some earllier edition

I would actually have Acrobatics and even controtiions as normal skills, with types of acrobatics as spacializations.

The literal definition (per Wikipedia) of Acrobatics is “the performance of extraordinary feats of balance, agility and motor coordination.” IMO, Running, Climbing and Jumping are sufficient to cover the “ordinary”, whereas Acrobatics would be the sorts of amazing feats (like parkour) that are only attainable via extensive training and practice. And per what I posted here, an Acrobatics Advanced Skill could be subdivided into Specializations.

Because when a skill is found only under a specific species template, it’s assumed per the RAW that it is only available to that species. The other example is the Body Language skill on the Lorrdian near-human species template. Allowing characters not of those species to have access to either of those skills is a House Rule, not an Official one.

Do you have a book/page number for THAT rule (you said, "per RAW").

I don’t. However, in the only other cases where new skills are presented (specifically the Engineering skill), it is not tied to a single species template. The Acrobatics skill, however, only occurs in connection to the Trianii.

I see how you could draw this conclusion.

See page 14 of the same book. It says:
"What is true of all special abilities [note it says "abilities"] is that they are specific to the species in question; they cannot be learned by members of other species. This is the biggest difference between special skills and special abilities."

IMO, there’s room there for an Advanced Skill with Running and Climb/Jump as prerequisites. Maybe (A) Acrobatics, covering extreme agility stuff like fall damage reduction, pole vaulting, trapeze/rope swinging, etc.

Didn’t 1E D&D have Acrobat as a character class? Might be a place to look for ideas...

Not in the core books but I recall that it was first introduced in Dragon Magazine. It probably did eventually make into a supplement. garhkal may know.

It eventually made its way into Unearthed Arcana, as an option for thieves (and, according to some, monks and assassins, but only as a house rule)

Unearthed Arcana, that's it. I don't think I ever had that book but one of my old DMs did. I used to have a bunch of Dragon Magazine issues but they are long gone now. And I meant to say, Nexx may know.

I've combined climb/Jump and swimming into "athletics" in my game, so I just use that with high difficulties for the most part.. but it is reasonable to presume that some force skills would be extremely useful to adjust this.. Imagine a Parkour guy that knows he can make a 10 meter vertical jump when it really counts..

Anyway, what I really wanted to contribute is that I recall the sport being called "Jango Jumping," possibly as a nod to the Terrelian race?
